Hey everyone,
I need help confirming if what i am seeing on the roof of my car is what i fear it is. looks to me like holograms and a wetsand mark. the only explanation to this would be the so called "bodywork" that the dealer did to fix a scratch on the roof while the car was being transported. please help me identify what they are and how do i remove them? would a wolfgang swirl remover 3.0 get rid of these?any help would be great!

those pictures are hard to make out what is what...

Buffer marks from a hack using a rotary polisher with a wool cutting pad. The last thing that you want to do is to take it back there and let them hack it up even more. I suggest you either pick up the stuff to fix it yourself or post a thread here looking for an enthusiast or professional member of this forum to help you with it.

I would like to give it a try unless i can find some trustworthy detailer who really knows how to do it in dallas, texas to show me.

For the cost of paying a really good detailer to do it you can purchase a ready to polish Porter Cable kit with all that you will need to get the job done. Such as this kit,
Meguiars Porter Cable Ultra Polish Kit with 5.5 Inch Pads, Meguiar's Mirror Glaze Polishing Kit, Meguiars polishes, Porter Cable 7424 Mirror Glaze
and if you buy now you'll get a how to DVD included with it to show you how to do the work. I know a great detailer within a short drive to Dallas. PM me if you want his info.

i actually spent close to 500bucks worth of detailling equipment. bought a pc 7424 and a bunch of other stuff such as the wolfgang 3.0 total swirl remover combo which i hope will get rid of the swirls as well as the holograms. waiting for the weather to warm up a little. i could use the contact info of the detailer that you mentioned. in case i need help. thanks!!

I just got off the phone with the guy who I mentioned, he is a great detailer and a super nice guy and is actually a member here at AG (redwings97) He said he'd be glad to help where he can and said we will visit this thread this evening to give you his info.

Hey - I live just outside of Dallas and spoke to Tuscarora Dave earlier tonight. I am the detailer he mentioned in his response above. I would be more than happy to come out and help you fix your problem. I could show you how to use your new pc 7424. The 3.0 might be too heavy of a compound, but this would be a trial and error process. I live just east Rockwall and would not a problem coming out and helping you. I have detailed many of cars. I can bring my polishes, pads, etc just in case.... I would charge you a beer to help you out. I am positive we could solve your issue. The temp needs to be warmer, above 50 for most products to work correctly.

My cell phone number, is a PA number, 610-406-1015 -

Give me a call to set something up with you. My weekends are free for the most part.

Trent

Oh - I know I do not have many responses here on autogeek, but if you want to see some of my work, go to detail city and search threads using my redwings97 name and you should pull up a number of cars including 2 black corvettes, black mercedes and on and on

Hey Trent,
thanks for getting back to me on this. sure do appreciate your willingness to help me out with my car. i drive the 40th anniversary 370z. i've looked at some of your work on detail city and saw that you have detailed a blue 350z which gives me some assurance that you've had some experience with the Z. i would imagine the paint on the 350 and the 370 wouldn't be too different. i live in an apartment in uptown. i was actually planning on doing the detail in a friend's garage because the apartment i live in does not have a hose that i can use and wash my car and detail it afterwards. waiting on the weather as well. never detailed a car myself. been watching loads of videos of mike doing it. haha. my number's 270-227-6870. will give you a shout once this weather's a little more ideal.

Yeah give me call when you are ready. I also detailed my mom's 350Z - dark charcoal - but never posted the job. Like I said, most of my weekends are free. The end of February I will start playing soccer on Sundays, but can help you prior to a game (or after) depending on game time if Sunday is the only day that works out. It doesn't look to be too much if a issue to correct.

Thanks Trent. would it be ok if i drive to your place and get it all washed and detailed there? I have all the stuff available for detailling but just don't have a place where i can wash and detail in one setting. i bought a foam gun that i'd really like to use. hahaha. let me know if this is ok with you.

thanks
Andy

Just be sure to do a test spot in one area first and dial in a process that works to everyone's satisfaction then duplicate the process over the rest of the car.

Looking forward to the after pictures and the follow-up post...

I downloaded one of your pictures and then uploaded it into your gallery, it's so much easier to see pictures when they're inserted instead of attached...

Just to confirm, "yes" those are rotary buffer inflicted swirls, buffer trails or holograms, all three terms mean the same thing.

Looks like the normal quality of work you get from dealership bodyshops...

As long as the person that inflicted the damage wasn't using to coarse of a compound or polish or too tatty and worn out buffing pad, those swirls should buff out pretty easy.

Not a problem. From the picture above it looks like those marks will buff out pretty easy. Most likely using a light polishing compound will do the trick.

I live out in Caddo Mills which is about 25 miles east of Rockwall off of Highway 30. When the weather starts to warm up, give me a call and we can set something up. Either at my house or your buddies makes no difference to me. PS - my driveway is not concrete but a gravel drive and is about 200 feet long. Clearance should not be an issue for it is pretty level. just FYI. LOL

Will certainly do a test spot first. Andy's in good hands. LOL

Will make sure we get some pics and will have Andy get them posted.

BTW - I do have a concrete pad near my garage (at the end of the gravel drive) where we can wash your car etc... Forgot to mention that.
