Hi, I bought this $25 Ryobi Buffer from Home Depot , just to buffer out these little scratches on my ( brand new) car

Of cause you get what you pay for .. but it feels like this buffer is totally useless .. i can't even get the lights scratches out..

The description says : 4800 OPM is that the same as RPM ? And what is the minimum RPMs I need to work on scratches.. ?
I figured I don't have to invest $150 for a good Buffer/Polisher
( yet) since the paint is still brand new and I'm just looking to get these couple of scratches out.. )

The Buffer only came with a 2 different pats ( see pics)

I then used the Wool pat to see if I can use at least use buffer
to polish the paint with regular wax .. I compared the job with the side where I just used a microfiber rag by hand .. and not even
the result but also the effort was not of advantage with this buffer.

What do you guys think ?

Hate to rain on your parade, but the only thing that might be good for is shining your shoes...scratches need a DA or rotary...this can apply a wax, but for corrective work you'll need much more power

Ha Ha yeah it felt like that..
what is a DA? What kind of pads would I need?

Would you guys use this machine for regular waxing ? Or rather by hand?

Forget it ,it doesn't even spread wax ,it's good to remove haze on a black hood in 98 degrees in south Florida when I feel lazy,I got 3 of them in my attic not that brand,Walmart special there all the same.

I think the Ryobi pad only oscillates in a random pattern. The pad does not rotate (spin) from the centrifugal forces. So you are only getting single action instead of dual action.

No power to it even if it did.

Since we're trying to help you succeed, would you happen to have a picture or two of these scratches?

i think you wasted $25. But you found the forum and here you will learn what you need to get the finish perfect. There are a ton of great people here that will get you pointed in the right direction.

Porter Cable & Griots Garage both offer inexpensive Dual Action units. These units combined with the proper foam pad should make easy work of most mild scratches. AGO offers several affordable kits to get users started.

Porter Cable 7424 XP Dual Action Polisher - dual action orbital car polisher, car care kits, buffer kits, PC 7424,7424XP, 7424 XP, porter cable

Post some pics of the scratches and the overall finish of the vehicle and you will get a ton of recommendations.
