Honda Fit (Jazz) 2010 Brilliant White Pearl Double Coated (OptiCoat 2.0 and CQuartz)

Hi guys..

Four months ago, my car has been coated with OptiCoat 2.0, with amazing result and protection. But somehow I really would like to try out the CQuartz coating too. Since I only have the one car, I thought what the heck just reapply the CQ upon OC2.
Car's always clean. I gave her proper maintenance and pamper with various LSPs.

Polishing and jeweling to bring out the pearly colorful metallic beads. Took about 6 hours just to get it done. Using Flex 3401, various LC pads, Megs Ultimate Compound and Menzerna PO85RD.

OC2 curing process.. The result is quite amazing.


Four months later

Paint condition is still in very good shape. However, tars started to stick around nearby the fenders. Due to heavy pollution in my country, paint started yellowing. Decided to wash it out with Megs GC shampoo + Megs APC (thanks to Matt@autogeek for the great advice ).

Went with PO85RD with finishing pad (SM Arnold and LC Black)

Looks good enough for me!

After IPA wipedown (twice), since I don't have the ironX, so I went directly on applying the CQ. It was so much fun! Much easier than OC2 which easily produced high spots if not in correct amount.

One layer of CQ can really bring up the deep gloss wet look I've been looking for!

Cured it up by letting it baked under the sun. Bless my country for tropical weather lol..

sorry 3rd to the last picture distracted me... had to go play some angry birds before I posted! That flake really pops on that car! I loved/loathed my 07 si nighthawk black pearl. It was so nice all shined up and it almost had a blue appearance to it when the sun hit it.

Don't you think that the CQuarts will have a problem bonding to the OC2.0?

If OC 2.0 is a resin similar to clear coat, and the paint was polished/prepped beforehand, I can't see why there would be any issue.

Chris@Optimum has always been saying that LSPs won't bond to an opti-coated surface. The old OC2.0 can't be layered because it won't let it bond to itself as well. If the OP used the older OC2.0 then I would assume that CQuartz will also have a problem bonding, no?

That paint looks AWESOME!!! I've only seen white paint look that good all of like 3 times. Excellent job!

Either the OC has been gone by the time cquartz in application. By abrasion? or by weather? The OP mentioned about the yellowing....protected paint won't be in such condition, will it?

CQ should not bond to freshly applied OC. CQ needs a fresh, virgin surface to bond to. I can't see how this would work. CQ would not bond to a surface on which I had applied DG 501. I tried it once just for giggles.

The paint looks fantastic. I am surprised by the mention of yellowing.

CO will can be layered if roughened up by abrasion. However, I don't know if even that will allow CQ to bond. I hope the OP gets all the durability she expects.

I don't think so. Heard someone claims that the beading, hydrophobic layer will last for about a year and coating itself will blend the cc.. Dunno whether it's true or not, the fact is, slickness reduced significantly only after a month after application. Need to qd it every day for my slickness-greed satisfaction :d

It bonded with other LSPs, such as pinnacle liquid souveran. Of course the durability reduced significantly, but then again I'm fine with it as long as tars and other gunks don't stick to my paint.

I think it was gone for like 80% thanks to the harsh environment and weather. When I APC washed it, the surface felt sticky like there was never any OC2 on it. Also, after thourough wash, I also polished it to make sure the repellent layer is completely gone. Never tried the OP so I couldn't comment on it.

Yea richy I read your thread at L2D about in too, and IMHO CQ didn't stick on top of sealants/waxes because it's oily (from DG501). I removed the oil by generous IPA wipedowns before applying the CQ, and the result is okay :d

It popped out of my iPad soon after all the achievements achieved! Lol kidding.. I think the blue appearance got enchanced from the metallic beadings. On my car, pinnacle crystal mist just boosted up all the blues. Love the effect and slickness!

And it's okay if the durability is not as good as I expect it to be. Just got reasons for me to detail again lol

It will maybe stick for around a month. Then it's just the OC again.
