This van belongs to my same neighbour who owns the FX. He is very impressed with the OC and wanted the van done with it too. I did not have a lot left and hoped to have enough to finish it on his van...turns out I needed to put CQ on the last 3 panels...oh well. Hey Mr Pusher Man..time for a new syringe!!
There are no before pics of this vehicle. It was done over the course of several days. The van had been completely repainted and the paint did not have a lot of life to it. The paint was compounded with M105 and a yellow B & S pad and where needed, a TB black wool pad. That was followed by M205 and a green pad. The colour is a very dark blue metallic. Each section was wiped down with IPA and then cleaned with ONR prior to using OC.
I have always had issue using OC. I could never find a delivery system that really seemed to work for me....until now. I got this brainwave about why not try the block and mf system for CQuartz to apply the OC?!? Well, guess what? It works fantastic. Better than that even. You can really control how it spreads, much better than with a foam applicator and I find you make the product go further too. I had virtually no high spots doing it this way, and there was a lot of real estate to cover on this thing!
I also tried topping it with DG beta clear. I allowed the OC to cure for at least 12 hours prior to doing it. It worked like a charm too and made the surface much smoother. Although I did find that it was smoother using the mf method than it had been trying other methods. Nonetheless it still improved the feel of it. OC was used on the glass, lights, paint and chrome.
I'm not going to do the whole big writeup thing with this vehicle, even though I had 20 hours into it. If anyone wants to know what I did on the interior or anything else, just ask. You guys are probably sick to death of these long, stupid writeups. Here are a few pics including some insect that became enamored with his reflection:
