Does your washing machine have a central agitator? Those are brutal on clothes. Tumble wash is better for your mitts.

I'll let others chime in on this but It does not make sense that people shell out the extra money for a Carpro or Dodo Wookie mitt over a microfiber mitt because they are looking for a harder/rougher mitt.
Well, I think the Dodo Mitts seem more luxurious, and I bet they cost more to produce, which explains the greater price.

I've used a wool mitt before, and it did glide nicely across the paint, but that was someone else's mitt. I was working for a mobile detailer for a short time, and ALL of his customer's cars were covered with swirls. They were all worse looking than the cars I washed, so I asked him if he was the only one who washed his client's cars. he said yes. I did not tell him why it is I asked. I think I got my answer then.To be fair, those weren't Wookies fists, but were your basic, high quality, clean sheepskin mitts.

I had cotton chenille only at the time. Cotton chenille start coming apart after the third wash, sometimes strands come off the first or second wash, but they are soft and delicate. I would have put a $3 cotton chenille wash mitt against a $25 sheepskin mitt any time for safe washing.

You think Corey would wash his Skybaby with a mitt that puts swirls in his paint?

I read that wool mitts cause swirls in David H. Jacob's detailing books, and I know what I have seen from another detailer's work. I think the sheepskin mitts are supposed to last longest, which is the greatest reason for their popularity.
As far as Corey and his red Saturn Sky, polished to near perfection, Corey's skills are certainly among the best there are, but I'm not sure he lets his car get dirty enough for there to be any swirls caused, and I think he maintains his wax job well enough that any marring caused would be taken up by the wax and never the paint.
I think that wool mitts lay flat against the paint when wet, and the dirt doesn't go far enough into the mitt to protect the paint against marring as microfiber or cotton chenille.

Don't understand why anyone needs to put wash mitts in the
Clothes Washer. Feed back please

I wash the Chenille ones with my other microfibers using microfiber soap. They come out fine. I've washed my sheepskin one on delicate cycle and it came out fine. Why wash them? The same reason as you wash anything else that touches your paint, to remove and oils, grit, left over soap, or road grime that may still be in the mitt after rinsing in your rinse bucket.

You could wash it by hand, but I wash microfibers towels about once a week, so I will throw a chenille wash mitt in with them. I don't think I would machine wash a Wookie's Fist, CarPro Merino mitt, or a sponge mitt.

As far Merino Wool mitts scratching paint, I don't believe it. The Wookies Fist has 11 reviews on AG, 10 of them are 5 stars. The one guy who gave it only 4 stars only left the comment "the best wash mitt". The CarPro Merino Mitt has five reviews, all of them 5 stars. Nobody said either of these scratched paint.

AG doesn't take down bad reviews like Chemical Guys, there are plenty of bad reviews on there. I think a lot of "wool mitts" being sold are are likely synthetic blends. Technically, wool doesn't even have to come from a sheep. Also, all wool is not Merino wool, other types of wool may not be as soft.

So I just reached down and confirmed that I had a pair and went for it.

best quote of the rebuild thread. <- can be applied to many things detailing related, and life related.

Excellent job on the C5, btw.

The more I think about it, the more I realize that the cotton chenille is the safest mitt. It passes the CD scratch test, and there are few things softer than cotton. Wool certainly isn't as soft as cotton. Sure they wear out fast, but that is only because they are so delicate. It is better to wear out the wash mitt faster than it is to scratch your paint.

1. You sir have never held a Merino Wool Mitt lol!

2. I dont want to come off sounding mean because you have a valid opinion, and I'm still learning as well, but I feel that the vast majority of people on this forum would use a Wookies Fist or Carpro Mitt before they used a cotton chenille mitt on their paint. (Am I wrong people???)

You are totally correct! This is unbeatable:
Merino wool wash mitt, auto wash mitt, sheepskin wash mitt
Gtechniq introduced a "copy" some time ago:
Wash & Maintenance // G|Techniq
I only use chenille for lower parts or wheels.

I don't use any wool item on my paint. Too harsh for my soft clear coat.

Mine as well :( I love my Merino Mitt but it creates micro scratches occasionally on my car :/

Btw Junkman that autozone mitt you recommended has been a wonder ever since I got it!! Not a SINGLE scratch:dblthumb2:

And to think that it came out of Auto Zone. You could not have gotten me to believe that had I not tried it myself. Go figure!

If Junkman recommends it. I believe it.

Junkman who is going to win the the next Superbowl?

😏

I know nothing about pro sports but if you want to know who the next NCAA champion in football or basketball is going to be, I'm rooting for my Louisville Cardinals! :D
