Hoses, hoses and more hoses!

I started this thread a few months ago to get some feedback on the expandable hoses that seem to be everywhere. I'm glad to see that many other suggestions have been made, even including couplings and valves. Getting back to my original question, I bought one of those expandable hoses and the problems I see outweigh the positives. They are easy to coil up and store away in a flower pot. Most other hoses have to be on a hose reel of some sort. And they are much lighter than regular rubber hoses.

However, the outside material of these expandable hoses is subject to fraying just by dragging across the driveway. On a lawn they would be fine but not on a driveway where I can not see them lasting very long. Also, they do not have sufficient interior diameter to give a forceful spray. I doubt they would be useful with a foam gun. I have been happy overall with my black Craftsman (on a hose reel) and I will keep the expandable for watering flowers.

Eldorado2k - A bit random, But how's life with the Flexzilla?

There's 1 thing that's kind of annoying though... Like why the heck do I have to deal with this situation pretty much any time I decide to walk from 1 side of the vehicle to another...

Sure it's sort of easy to straighten out, but I constantly have to do it. It seems like the only time this hose isn't doing that is when I walk it out just before turning on the spigot. After that it's churn, churn, churn me some more would ya? When it's time to coil the hose... Churn, churn, easy churn but more churn! Geez with this hose... Does this qualify as kinking? If so this hose is soft, yea, but it kinks like all of the time...

Yep, that is exactly what I wanted to avoid when I asked the question about expandable hoses. Those do not coil that bad although they are not totally immune to twisting. The problem, as I pointed out in the post before yours is they fray badly when dragged on a driveway so I don't see them lasting very long. Another problem is the water pressure from them is much lower than a regular hose due to the restricted interior diameter. But if you want to avoid that twisting your picture shows at all cost, then the expandable hose is your best bet.

I believe I posted earlier in this thread about the Zero G hose I had just purchased. I've had it a year now and it has been fantastic--no kinks or loops as you're moving around the car--much different than the expandables in that it doesn't shrink when the water is turned off and gives the same pressure/flow of a standard 5/8" hose. It also has a 5 year warranty. At $36 for a 50' it's expensive, but on sale at Lowes now for $30. Just bought another for out on the patio--it really is a great product.

Nope, the best bet would be to get another stiff hose like I had before... That hose was too stiff to kink or churn, or whatever this Flexy hose likes to do all day... I could never settle for the weak pressure of those typical expandable hoses.

Yea you make it sound perfect, and it may very well be... But I'll stick to my guns because I don't want an ugly hose... The lime green color of the Flexzilla looks too damn good. Yes it's flawed, but I love how it looks, my trophy hose. Lol.

Hmmm. I'll be honest and say I haven't run into mine being a rolled up nightmare like that. That's a bummer to see.

Have you tried uncoiling enough hose to use then giving it a whip-crack style shake from the spigot end to get it to straighten out?

Well it's not a nightmare because it's easy enough to handle.. I just wish I didn't have to babysit it so much.

No I haven't tried that. I always just walk it out then turn on the water.
If it's rolled up like you see in my pic and you turn the water on, the whole thing becomes a mess and has to be re coiled again.

Maybe that's the difference. My water spigot is far enough away from where I'm washing cars (and I'm lazy) that I turn the water on then walk the hose out.

So are you suggesting I turn the water on then walk it out? Either ways I do that often mid way through washing the car trying to get it in line. This hose is just made soft to a fault maybe.

Maybe give that or the whip-crack a shot (anyone else and I'd warn them to watch out for their car  ). Just trying to figure out how I haven't had mine get all twisted up like that.

Half the time I use it from the hose reel, the other half from being "lasso coiled" or whatever Mike Phillips called it in the extension cord thread.

I just picked up a Flexilla hose. We will see how this works out.
