Clarity does have a nice shop! I need to come by sometime, it's only 10 - 15 minutes from my house

Wow! What a great offer and location. The power of the forum is fantastic. Consider us booked for that Saturday the 25th. Just say when, and we'll be there.

We open our doors at 9am! We will have donuts and coffee at the ready!

We look forward to meeting everyone! Chip and I will work out some particulars but we won't bore you guys here with it.

Chip, I just shot you back an PM!

This is going to be awesome! Can't wait to meet everyone!

Excellent Vargas.

I spoke with Chip yesterday and gave him my advice based upon experience concerning the brand new engine and drivetrain in his 1958 Cadillac. My advice was to drive the car for a few weeks to make sure all the bugs are worked out before tackling the extreme makeover to the paint.

The reason why is because even the best shop in the world if they plan to do 100 things to a car and miss 2-3 it can leave you dead in the water and it's by driving the car that you work out the bugs or the missed tasks.

I was watching "Chasing Classic Cars" with Wayne Carini and on one episode he purchased a freshly restored 1949 Chevy 5-Window Pickup Truck. After the auction was over Wayne was driving the truck across the parking lot when gasoline starting leaking or actually pumping out of the gas line from the pump to the carburetor. The reason it was leaking was because a 49 cent hose clamp wasn't fully tightened down. This would have been one of the 100 or more thing the restoration shop needed to do when restoring the truck but when doing this type of work it's really easy to miss something as simple as tightening a hose clamp.

And that's my point. It's not that the shop doing the work on Chip's 1958 Cadillac isn't pro quality and qualified it's just when you take on projects like these and do a million things it's easy to accidentally miss something and the thing that's missed can leave a car and the owner stranded.

So my advice is upon receiving the Caddy back is to drive it for a few weeks and make sure all the bugs are worked out and THEN do the paint restoration.

My guess is it will be around the weekend of Saturday, April 25th.

As you can see above, Mike was wise to suggest a later date. To his credit again, he was spot on. After driving it around, there was a small issue with the water pump, which meant it had to go back to the shop. Everything else is fine, and it's expected back out of the shop today or tomorrow, so we're still on for next Saturday, the 25th.

What do we need to bring with us

I'm bringing a car :)

Kidding aside, I'm not sure what to bring other than that. I do plan on bringing a bunch of breakfast tacos for the group and will have plenty of other food/drinks for the remainder of the day too.

Maybe Mike will chime back in with some other information, but that's all I the info I have for now.

OK, all. I wanted to give a little bit more of the final details. Thanks again to Clarity Auto Detailing for agreeing to host and to those who are down to help out this weekend.

On Friday, I am going to bring the car to Clarity's shop to get the "before" photos. After that, we'll rub the car down with the Meguiars #7 show car glaze and let it sit overnight to soak into the paint.

Saturday, the plan is to get have folks show up/get started around 9:30AM. I think Clarity opens a little before that, but they want everyone there around 9:30. We'll have breakfast and everything ready when you all get there.

We'll have the following products available to use on this project:

Meguiars #7 Show Car Glaze
Pinnacle's Compound
Pinnacle Swirl Remover
Pinnacle Finishing Polish
Soveran Paste Wax

Mike indicated that he believes we would primarily need to be using the #7 glaze, swirl remover, and polish, but the others will be there IF we need to use them. I don't/wasn't planning on claying the car or anything like that, but am open to suggestions from anyone in the know about whether that would be helpful, or just stick with the original plan for now.

The one thing you will need to bring/have available are pads for any buffers/polishers you are bringing.

I do have a small jar of some product to try and help clean up/restore the chrome/metal too, but I believe the primary focus of this makeover is on the paint. However, if you have the time or care to try, the car will be at your disposal to play with.

Let me again say that I am grateful for everyone's help with this project, and I am looking forward to restoring what we can on this survivor car. If you have any questions in the interim, please just PM me with your contact information, and I'll call you back.

Chip, I'm confused. In Mike's original post, it says we are doing this by hand. Is that not the plan anymore?
