first post on the forum..... looking for advice on how bad my damage is and what i need to fix it

my rx8 is seven years old and had has clay bars and wax but never any buffing or polish or correction of any kind

i had the paint in excellent shape until i brought it to a local detailer and they swirled and put defects in my paint all over my car last fall..... i am finally getting around to fixing it

was thinking about buying a porter 7424 or similar device along with a 105/205 combo and some orange and finishing pads.... will this fix my paint or do i need more?

thanks.... sorry for the bad pics

105 may be too much for the shallow swirling I see in your pic. I'd start with 205 and a white pad and go from there. Honestly doesn't look too bad at all.

thx for the reply..... its a bad picture but it is a good representation of the damage on the vehicle

i was wondering if 105 was going to be too much..... what r your thoughts on pad color to use?

Light swirls in that picture, for a beginner I'd stay away from 105/205. I'd go with Menzerna or the Wolfgang duo for polishes. Get the 5.5" flat pads, Orange, white, and if you are going to apply you LSP with the pc get a couple blue.

:iagree: M205 and a white pad does wonders. Worked on a black mazda tribute, close to the same condition as yours (or from the picture you show) using m205 and white pad and tangerine HT pad. Only thing left were deeper scratches.

this is exactly the advice i was looking for..... i had not looked into those polishes, just the 105/205..... which menzerma product do u recommend?

a little off topic but since i am going to polish, figured i would do a glaze/wax too to help hide the defects..... was thinking of klasse hg sealant and then carnuba..... any thoughts?

thx

good to know... i am sure the paints would be similar cause they still made the tribute back when i bot my rx8, mine is a 2005

excuse my ignorance, what is a ht pad?

m205 is a lot easier to work with than m105. As a matter of fact, it's super easy to work with. Black Mazda Tribute i detailed a while back with m205 and white pad and bumper with tangerine HT pads.

Lake Country Hydro Tech pads.

Go with the Wolfgang combo, they are made by Menzerna and are a great pair. Pretty much the same price as Menzerna to. Create a flawless finish in 2 simple steps with the Wolfgang Duo.

HT stands for Hydro Tech. Awesome Pads and a perfect match for the WG polishes. Lake Country Hydro-Tech 5 1/2 x 7/8 Inch Foam Pads 3 Pack - Your Choice!

After correction there really shouldn't be any need for a filling glaze. Just a sealant and if you like top the sealant with a Nuba wax.:props: Klasse sealants are some of the hardest to use IMO. If you want a good reasonable priced sealant take a look at DP Poli Coat DP Poli-Coat Paint Sealant, polymer paint sealant, auto paint sealant, DP Policoat paint sealant, paint sealer For Black paint i really like the Four Star UPP Four Star Ultimate Paint Protection, Four Star UPP, paint sealant super slick and easy to use, or the Blackfire Wet Diamond BLACKFIRE Wet Diamond All Finish Paint Protection, paint sealant, synthetic sealant, blackfire sealant and for a easy to use paste wax take a look at DP Max Wax DP Max Wax- Made with pure carnauba wax and advanced polymers.

thx for the advice everyone..... just what i was looking for

i have decided to go with the wolfgang/mazerma polish and sealant and then finish it off with sealant and wax... if i need to go to the 205 i will but from the sounds of the advice i am getting, i wont need it

however, i have decided to go for the flex 3401 over the porter 7424.... while the rx8 will be a light job, i have an older subaru and lexus in the family that i will be detailing too that will need extra power and i think i am better off with the flex to start

thanks again.... i am ettig my tools next week so i will post some before and after shots to show the results

then its onto the interior!!!!
