I did the non warranty version of opti coat pro on my car few months ago. Since it is non warranty, there is chance the coat is peeling off after some time, How do I tell?

The coating can be subjectively tested by evaluating the beading and sheeting properties. As far as objectively measures, the only way to truly tell would be if you had taken specific paint thickness readings after polishing and before coating. Then you could reference back to those reading. If you did not, then there is not objectifiable ways of evaluating the state of your coating.

If you are really concerned get the finish kare system and apply it. If there is still beading after you are done the coating is intact.

Fun one that is at 45f -- NOT lol!

I am just curious. coating is interesting stuff that you paid hundreds for it but very hard to tell it actually exist.;)

I use ONRWW for all my wash so there is always wax on the car to help with beading.

Here is how the coating should respond to a water via pressure washer when the paint is clean. If you've been neglecting washing it or going thorugh a lot of touch-less washes your beading may be diminished slightly from my video, but a decon should bring it back to like new.

EDIT: If your using ONRWW it will be hard to tell for sure.

Help me out here...

-Is this Coating peeling off now?
-Or are you saying it may peel sometime later on, (because this Coating is non-warranted), and would like to know how to tell when the peeling begins to happen?

Thanks.

Bob

The latter, I'd like to know how to tell my coat is 100% intact.

IF you get a warranted version of opti coat pro, the installer will actually inspect your car annually to check the intactness of the coat. But I didn't pay for the warranty so curious how to do so myself.

Rasky, the video is awesome, is it opticoat 2.0 or pro version on the car? if 2.0 has such behavior I'd probably just do 2.0 next time.

That is Opti-Coat Pro, but they should react the same.

FWIW, I've never heard of OC peeling off, nor do I think we would even be able to see it if it did since it's about 0.001 of an inch thick. ;)

As long as you are washing regularly the coating should hold up very well for years to come. I would suggest a yearly decon though to remove any bonded surface contaminants from the paint...Tarminator and IronX work great for this :xyxthumbs:

Mind if I ask who installed it for you?

If this Coating begins to peel, then I'd wager that it didn't bond with the paint as it's advertised to do...
And you'll need to abrade the effected areas to rid the vehicle of the OC-peels.

Do you know if the installer used the primer first before applying the opti-coat? I would take it back to him and make him fix it. It sounds like he may have not prep the paint properly. Even if you did not get the warranty I would still fix it for you. Any good detailer would honor his work and fix it since it's only been a couple months.

I've never seen or actually heard of oc peeling or cracking. When it goes away its properties simply dissapear.

But:
It should never go away, unless abraded away;
Now isn't that how it's marketed: "Permanency"?

I don't believe the OP stated there was any issues. He just seemed curious how to monitor his coating to ensure it was still protecting his car in the future. Rasky provided the answer in that he should simply maintain it with regular washes and decon when necessary.

That's right I don't have any issues. I just want know how to do the annual inspection of the coating myself. The warranted version will have the installer inspect annually.

Either abraded or improper installation.
