How do I the white pad with the UDM?

Hi everybody,

I am from Canada and new to detailing and just got UDM to have some fun with my Blue 2003 Jetta.

My questions is how to use the whitel pad that comes with the machine? The UDM website says that it is the most abrasive pad of the line up, but since I also got the CCF yellow pad, the white pad are quite smooth compare to it. Anyway, I did not use the pad, but since it is low profile I would like to try in the future.

Anyway, I am getting ready for the long winter up here and no detailing can be done outside a long time.

Some more info would be helpful..starting with what city are you from? We're getting good representation from all over Canada on AG..it's a good thing! Anyway, about your car, what condition is the paint? Scratches? Swirls? New? OLd? Even better..pics? You may need just a light polish or you may need a heavy duty workover..we'll set you on hte right path with more info. Welcome again, fellow Canuck!

When you say the UDM website says it is the most abrasive pad of the line up, I don't believe the pad that came with your UDM is part of the UDM DAS Foam Polishing Pads. Did you buy the UDM with the DAS Pad line up (White, Orange, Green and Blue pads) or did you just buy a UDM and it came with a white pad. If you just ordered a UDM, the white pad you ordered is not part of the DAS Pad line up, it is a polishing pad. The easiest way to tell, is look at the surface of the pad that touches the paint. Does it have three "grooved rings" around it? If not, that is not an agressive Whte DAS pad, it is a polishing pad.

First of all, I am from Cambridge, Ontario so the winter isn't quite as harsh as say Edmonton. The car I bought back in April of this year, and I bought a bunch of stuff including Menzerna super intensive polish in September, it took that and the Yellow lake country pad to remove the swirls already on there. Of course I washed and clayed before that.

I did take pictures , but the lighting is not very good so you can't see the swirls all that well. I also have the pictures of the car (after the detailing), but I am too lazy to spend the time to smudge out the license plate so I didn't post it. This post wasn't about detailing advice anyway. (not saying that I don't need it, but considering it's winter, I will ask in the spring when it's time to detail again.)

The white pad came as part of the package when I bought UDM, it does have the grooved rings on the pad, I wonder what they do?

Oh, in that case, you received the DAS cutting pad. The grooves are meant to "hold the polish" to minimize sling. My UDM came with a basic white polishing pad.
