How do some of the current sealants compare?

Businesswise I am not sure coatings are the best thing we can sell. Once on, people won't need waxes or sealants anymore and will need a washing a lot less often.

It is true you can make more money selling a coating but I am not sure how it will affect repeat business.

Maybe some of you guys who sell a lot of coatings can comment on this?

I tend to agree. I can get 6+ months out of Klasse or 845. My $25 bottle of SG has lasted almost 9 years. My $17 bottle of 845 will probably last years as well. I've had it for over a year now and I'm barely below the "C" on the lable. I think those are a pretty good return on investment. I can handle touching my vehicles twice a year to keep them protected.
 
I have always had good results with the Klasse twins. The AIO cleans and preps the surface and the HGSG add the extra durability and protection. They are both priced great, the AIO is versatile and both go a long way.
 
IMO it depends on the conditions. If you park outside in rough conditions, you will be lucky to make any wax or sealant last a couple months without boosting. If its garage kept and driven rarely in relatively mild conditions like my Corvette you could probably make any carnauba last a year.

I was able to get 6 months out of both SG and 845 on cars that sat outside 15~18 hours a day and were driven through the last mid-west polar vortex winter. The only products I've encountered that only lasted a couple of months were high carnauba content waxes that basically melted off the car during the summer.

I have seen posts on this forum last year with a guy applying various sealants to different part of his car... but I have never seen a follow up with the results.

I think sealant choice should be based on 2 factors: 1. Ease of application in the sense it won't stain anything so you are not forced to mask things off. 2. Durability.

Once the sealant is on, wax, quick wax and quick detailer should be the products to provide the extra shine. What I want in a sealant is protection.

I agree with you guys and klasse. I got 7 months and my car sits outside 24/7. I maintained with sonus acrylic spritz and glanz. I could have gone another 2 months easily.

So you used no boosting products after washing or while drying?
 
Prep work is everything, think about it. For ANY product to work best it should be applied to the cleanest surface possible. That said, for a pure sealant you can't go wrong with any of the Collinite tripplets or DG #111 as its a PURE sealant w/ NO cleaners!

I agree! Only sealant I have ever used and see no need to change. I apply it twice a year on my DD and top it with Optimum Car Wax after every wash.

Caranuba based waxes: 2-6 weeks
Synthetic Sealants: 2-4 months
Silica-based Coatings: 6mo-2 years+

That pretty much mirrors my experiences. Even with perfect prep and being 110% anal I've never gotten the durability other people here claim on my DD that sits outside 24/7. Collinite's 845 and 476 are the most durable ones I've used followed by Duragloss. Maybe it's our rain, I don't know.

For example I can kill Collinite on the back of my waverunner in one day.
