How "Do You" beat the heat?

Hey daddy'o why u no carry cocked & locked? The Kershaw folder is a utility, I carry a ka-bar tdi on my support side IWB 10:30'ish, right handed sheath for reverse grip.

Back on topic...

Do any of you guys fire up a customers car, ac, radio etc. for a quick burst of cool air while wiping the interior down?

And back off topic....

Oh YEAH I carry cocked & locked, you betcha! (I was referring to the to the Kershaw on the strong carry side.) That ka-bar should fix that just fine. ;) Having a firearm that isn't in 'condition 1' is IMHO as useless as not having one at all! Jus' sayin'.....
(Ya might wanna' check out RGrizzle he's a talented dude for sure. Did a Havana elephant, with gray quill ostrich trim, smooth calfskin lined, custom tilting flexible paddle (read, not hard uncomfortable kydex, but actually a leather paddle, smooth outside (with inscription) and gray suede backing) rig, with a mag pouch for my daughter for Christmas. Thought I'd win for sure, then her boyfriend showed up and asked me if he could marry her, then popped out a platinum ring with little stones and a big ol' stone in the middle. (Me didn't win.) :dunno:

And as of 3 weeks ago yesterday, they were married. :)

Now back to your regularly scheduled programming............

I usually just move the fan(s) to where I get air when doing the interior. With that exception, right before my epidural I did crank up the Viper I was doing while doing a quick interior wipe down (wasn't detailing the interior, but didn't want my sweaty self making me HAVE TO do it.) :)

The other week while I was working in 95, 75% humidity and very little wind.
My customer said I can use her Fridge for my drinks.
I got to thinking and I put a wet towel in the freezer.
When I got to point where I was dying I put the towel over my head.
WOW, it was like I had an AC on my head.
My hot work day was broken up by these little "cool down" times
and made my day a lot better.

I then remembered I had a potable Fridge from my past job.
So now that's in my van keeping a towel cold.

I'm happy in the heat now!

I have been here in Florida now for 3 years. One year has been spent learning to detail here and there. Besides having a garage and or a canopy how do you all beat this heat in Florida? Especially the Mobile Detailers. Do you have any tips our tricks? I'm originally a Jersey man and love the cold so this heat is exhausting.

I moved down here 32 years ago from South Jersey though I'm acclimated it will kick your butt. I detail for the fun of it and some extra $$$. I did and Audi A-6 a month ago, 14 bottles of water and 3 gatorades later and still hadn't peed  If I didn't have a fan with me I would have died! Even though it was a nice spacious three car garage.

Fla weather sucks lived there 18yrs, sweat just walking to your car...agree with comments above water down your body especially back of your neck and if you can try and book your details earlier In the mornings

Yeah it's only 85 at 9:00am instead of 95 at midday

When it's hot and humid in Michigan, I don't detail. lol. But I do prefer the towel in a bucket of ice water trick.

And always carry in condition one. If I need it I sure don't have time to rack the slide (I don't carry a 1911).

Yeah those two or three days a year it gets hot and humid up there must really kill you

I remember about ten years ago down here in Tampa it hit 90 in mid April and didn't drop below it till mid October. 165 straight days of 90+!!!!!

I've live in Florida for nearly 27 years, born and raised, and I still hate the summer heat. I love the short (but sweet) cool winter months we get. You'll catch me washing my car in short sleeves and shorts in 50 degree weather, lol.

As for beating the heat... I say just learn to accept it, because it won't let up until maybe October.

Me, too. :xyxthumbs:

There really is not much you can do if you are a mobile detailer. I do this everyday down here in Florida and I tell ya it seems like this has been a hotter summer than others to me. Some places I go to do not have any shade at all. They only thing you can do is get a popup canopy and drink lots of water. I did one car last week first one in the morning and and before I was half done I looked like I had sprayed myself with my water hose...

Yeah it's only 85 at 9:00am instead of 95 at midday

We hit 90 today but the usually high humidity in South Carolina was manageable. The mini split system keeps the temps (set) at 75 all summer long plus it draws out the humidity making it comfortable to work. In the winter it stays 68 degrees during the cold season. It's whisper quiet and the 18,000 BTU unit easily keeps my 900 sq ft detail area comfortable.

90* down to 75* you can hear how quiet the (indoor) unit runs...

I just live with it ... no fans, just shade and sweat. You can put some towels in a cooler with ice each morning that you can use for a quick cool down and they also work great for a quick clean up when you've finished the job. I'll wipe down and put on a dry shirt after a job. I'm old and with burn damaged lungs and quadruple bypass surgery... if I can handle 100+ temps I imagine you can adjust. It just takes time.

This and this! I try to tell my father in law all the time, why carry if it's not ready to go.

And there ya' go. :dblthumb2: I have an old 'school buddy' that's the same way. He wanted a 1911 style pistol, but got one with a bobbed hammer that's DAO. OMG... Seriously!
Considering a 1911 is safer than (the most popular striker fired pistol out there) having both internal and external safeties. (A total of 5 in all, versus finger (or anything else) on trigger makes gun go boom.)

It (carrying) is a moral decision that one must make. Much more than actually carrying, but involves actually being PREPARED to make a split second move that will change yours (and the bad guys) lives forever. If you don't train, don't believe, are not willing to make the choice making your family first, and don't have the will to make that move, then leave it at home!!!
Jus' sayin'........ :nomore:

We now return you to your regularly scheduled programming. :)

Speaking of that.....
BOY is it nice to have days in the 80's! Even I've been able to do away with an extra fan lately (or at least not want to kill myself).

Grew up in NYC. Retired in the High Desert of Oregon...... East of the Cascade Mountains. Dry and cool.
