I've worn glasses since I was 7 years old, and I still can't clean them without either scratching them or hazing them. It seems like the polycarbonate that modern glasses are made out of are way to soft.

I have a pair of Maui Jims that I wear with contacts, they are less than a month old and already have small scratches on them. I just can't seem to win with glasses. :help:

I've tried a dozen different microfiber cleaning towels (both marketed for eyeglasses and other purposes). I've used alcohol based cleaners and even tried Stoners Autoglass. I've also tried dry wiping with the microfiber towels.

Have any you detailing pros have and tips and tricks you can offer?

If you can physically see more than just oils on the lenses, i.e. dust/dirt/grime/etc., wash them with a mild soap under running water. That's the best I've ever been told. If you have anti-glare coating on your lenses, that's a big culprit for showing scratches (they're much softer than the lens). I know there are some really high quality lenses you can buy (don't remember the names offhand) that are supposed to be more resistant to scratching, but of course at a premium price. I haven't looked at that stuff in a couple years though since I had PRK in 2009 and finally don't need glasses anymore other than sunglasses (could never wear contacts :( )

I run them under the water in the sink and dry with a bath towel.

I've tried this method also, and they always seem to haze. I wonder if its the coating on the lens. The last set of prescription glasses I had lasted 7 years with minimal scratching. The latest set is a little over a year old and scratched to hell. I know the Maui Jims have multiple coatings on them and I believe the prescription lenses had an "anti-glare" coating.

I tried the coatings one time, never again. I just get the run of the mill lens and they last a couple years then replace.

NEVER use paper towels, napkin, and tissue (if not you will scratch and ruin the new lens. Not only that it will take off coating). Always use warm~cool water (hot can ruin the lens if you have a coating on them). Then get yourself a quality MF suede wipe and clean.

Been wearing glasses since I was 11 or so and never had issues since my aunt usually sends me new frames/lens with the cleaners.

Seriously...I just breathe on them to build up a little condensation, then wipe with a
soft klenex.

I have actually waxed the lenses of my glasses and used Meguiar's Scratch X. Both worked very well.
Hot water and microfiber towels work well for daily cleaning.

I just purchased new prescription glasses recently after the dog ate my old ones. I have the polycarb lenses with the scratch resistant coating (still scratch very easy). I bought the Lense Crafters cleaning spray and wipes and so far it has worked great.

I was told that alcohol will remove/damage the lense coatings so be careful what you spray on them.

I used to use water and a terry towel and my old glasses were scratched up in no time.

I may have to give that a try on the scratched pair. Did the scratch X hide any of the scratches?

I got the cleaner from Sears (where i got the glasses) and its alcohol. I guess they don't care if you need replacement lenses ;)

Now that's the answer I was looking for! : )

I actually do have the best luck with the fogging/MF method. I still get scratches though. I might be pressing too hard, but when I use light pressure I end up with hazy lenses.

Hummmmm. Scratches. Someone should try Cquartzing one lens and OC 2.0ing the other!

I tried to get away without the anti-glare coating when I still wore glasses. Couldn't do it since I sit at a computer all day. Sucks because the coating isn't cheap, and as you noticed, it's very soft and scratches easily.

Rinse with tap warm water, put some hand soap in each glasses, scrub with your fingers, rinse with warm water and then rinse with the hottest water you get of your tap then dry with a micro fiber. works best for me, no streaks, almost no scratchs and very clean. my glasses start to have some swirls after a year or so. I never wash them if it's not this method and never dry cleaning them, never!

the best cleaning solution for glasses is VODKA! Dont use the cheap stuff get the good stuff...the higher the proof the better.

Directions for cleaning use:

fill short glass
dip one lens and swish
repeat for other lens
let air dry for about 15 seconds
return to face for a no touch clean!

Side note:you may dispose of the glass of vodka any way you choose,I prefer digestion!
