How do you get "Countries Top Detailer" title?

Well, Ive watched most of Mike's videos (perform these practices exactly), read all of AG's tips (numerous x's), read many AG Forum threads. Maybe I'm "Top Detailer". Nah, still learning...Maybe I'm the "Bottom Detailer".

I brought this up a while ago and my post didn't receive many posts but I'm moving forward with it anyway.

There are so many reality show out there; most of them are garbage. I have written to several networks last week to see if they would be interested in having a Detailers Competition; haven't come up with a clever name yet but this is what I have thought out so far.

The judges would be someone like Mike Phillips and other top detailers around the country. Each week, a representative from Meguiars or some other company would also join in as a judge. The contestants would be given equally dirty Swirled, RIDs, etc to see which detailer does the best job.

The detailer will be judged on prep work, technique and final outcome of the detail. I'm only considering outside only since this is what most people would like to see anyway.

With all the reality shows for women out there, certainly, there's a show for us guys. I'm also quite sure sponsors could be found. I don't believe there would be too hard in finding guys, and to a lesser extent, women detailers to watch.

:hijacked:

That is so funny. I was talking to my wife the other day about how cool it would be if there were a "detailer competition" on TV sort of like those "cake building" or "best chef" reality shows. I think that is exactly what this industry needs to garner public awareness for what a pro detail job consists of.

If a show like this became popular maybe the masses would finally stop thinking their swirled out rides have nothing wrong with them.

Where did my name fall on the top detailer list??? Oh it was a top 10 never mind.

One of the detailers has a connection at DR. Together (and with the help of recommendations from the others) they came up with a list of detailers spread throughout the US. Just because someone may not be on the list doesn't mean they weren't asked, but all of them are indeed well respected and known to be some of the best detailers out there. ;)

Thanks for the info. I did reach out to a couple of those that had made the previous list in yrs past to satisfy my own doubt and you are correct. Personnaly I never would have thought it. I guess the more one learns , the more one finds he has yet to learn. Thanks again for sharing.

I can see it now: "Detailing Nightmares" with Gordon Ramsey.

Everyone can pick apart someone else's work. If I could afford an agent and an expensive website I would. That would put my name in line with mr. Dalton and those that buy advertising. Please do not take this as a slam, because if I could afford that, maybe for the past 12 years I would not have to work 7 days a week to keep up with the demand .

The DuPont registry of the top detailers was an advertisement paid for by each one of the companies on the list.

Would you like to share the source of this information ? Not wanting to flame but knowing a couple of the mentioned detailers I'm dubious of that statement. Like Mike I'm not in the magazine business.

It was indeed, though that does not take anything away from those on the list. I was actually asked to take part in the last round of the issue, though I declined at this time. It's definitely not just some random list thrown together though.

Agreed and I hope my statement did not imply otherwise. The guys on the list are talented/capable detailers - no doubt about that!

I was one of the top 9 detailers listed in Autoweek awhile back. You never heard me say anything about it because I didn't value the title. I didn't know why I or any of the others were on it, why we were we chosen, what made us top, what were the qualifications, etc... As a matter a fact the piece doesn't have a picture of me in it. You know why, I refused to send them one. They included me anyway.

Yes it tickles the EGO a little and I did get 10 detail jobs from it but...

I'll tell you what is most important to me. My clients and what they think. That is what I cherish most. I still have clients that started with me back in 1990! Most of my clients have been with me for 10-14 years on average. Because of them I can provide for my family, pay my mortgage, put my daughter in a really nice private school, have money to go on vacation... you get the idea.

THAT is what I am proud of. :xyxthumbs:

Well Joe most of us are proud to call you a friend . Thanks for all you have done in the detailing community and for all of the support you offer to so many other causes and charities. You sould be very proud.

Could there be a "pro-Am" division, you know, maybe I'm taken under a pro's wing to be better...just sayin':-)
