How do you guys manage it???

I don’t want you to shut up;
It’s free entertainment. :xyxthumbs:

Here’s some more “word salad” to digest:

To me “Biweekly” means twice a week.
(I don’t care what it means to you.)

The OP, therefore, has positioned himself
for more opportunities to abrade the Coating.
Not a “best practice”, IMO.

Please see above.

Bob

Biweekly can be interpreted both twice a week and every two weeks. In my case it was every two weeks

I believe it's hard for most people to get this level of car care. Most just don't care. My wife enjoys her car being clean but if it was left up to her it would never happen, in fact she would use the drive through. But she is supportive of my hobby. For me that's all it is, only on our vehicles. But I still hear about how much time I spend on it. I use the saying about the strip club too. No matter what your hobby would be, at this level of dedication, you are going to get razzed about it. Not to mention " another box from AG?".

Well, ceramic coating on both cars solved the problem with “another box from AG” for me - nothing really i can do to the cars at this point so no need for new products really. Lol

For me, I explain it is part of the routine maintenance of the car no different than keeping up on oil changes, tire rotations etc. If we want to keep the vehicles around for a long time and keep it looking reasonably nice, the exterior/interior needs to be kept up just like the mechanicals. Granted I don't spend 1.5 hours EVERY weekend washing her car. I simply wash it when we can work in the time and it's dirty, which works out to be about once every couple weeks.

My wife also understands detailing has become a hobby and it's something to get me out of the house and working with my hands, very similar to working in the yard. I enjoy doing the work, she appreciates a clean car (though it isn't a big deal for her), and we all win.

Yes, from start to finish. Why?

How big of a vehicle are we talking about? I can do a VW Golf sized car in about 30 minutes and a mid-sized SUV in about 45 minutes to an hour depending on how dirty it is. I could see a large truck or Suburban-sized SUV taking longer.

People take varying lengths of time to wash, as their techniques vary!

How many wash the wipers? Underneath the wiper arms? Fender wells?

Just between the household cars, I vary from a 10 min wash to 1 hour plus, depending on what I'm set out to do.

The wife's Kia gets the most loving and attention, of course.

I can usually do a general clean up of my cars which are 4 door sedans - BMW 335i and Hyundai Sonata in about 45min each. But that is not a super thorough cleaning. Usually a rinseless wash of the paint, door jambs, windows and wheels. I usually hit the interior once per month because we are generally good about not eating in the cars and the kids only drink water in the cars.
I will say it is hard to get to bi-weekly or bi-monthly cleanings just due to life and sometimes I can not even get to them once per month for a detail.

Whatever it is or may be you have to determine the balance with your misses if it is an issue and only you can really determine what that balance of your time is. I hope you figure it out, but it is definitley always challenging juggling time for things we enjoy when married/ kids are involved.

What else needs to be said.

Last GF had the same problem, and the one before that one, and the one before that one as well.

As you can see, it’s a pretty good problem to have...

And I’ll guarantee that you haven’t routinely given her ultimatum’s involving adult entertainment.

But I understand the dynamic of internet posting versus reality...

You forgot the "bar" mention.

And, you'd be surprised at some of the things said in our house. Great thing is, she shoots it right back at me. It's not one-sided.

But, I guess we are "unrealistic"...........

If I could have my way, I would wash all three cars every day. Since that is not possible, I usually give thorough cleanings to all cars twice a week. Each car can take 1 to 1-1/2 hours each. That is a complete cleaning with tires, wheels, wheel wells, paint, glass inside and out, seats, dash, console, floor mats, door jambs. My wife of 33 years could not understand the obsession at first but now she accepts it and appreciates it. I tell her that she deserves to drive a car that looks that good.

You rock, Davy.

I think our obsession also stems from other things.

Exhibit A: My house. A few leaves are falling already, and I have been up there twice this week cleaning the gutters. (Mine are low, easily done). Also, windows cleaned (outside. Spring/Fall). Furnace fully serviced. (By me).

Exhibit B: Lawn equipment. All are now getting oil changes and Stabil added to the fuel. After that, they will still be completely run out of fuel and carbs drained. (Ask me about ethanol damage in the marine industry...)

Exhibit C: Noting what I need for A&B, and researching it all winter long for the best deals.

Oh, then there is my damn obsession with cars............... Thanks, AG.

I just say i'm going to wash my car/s and she's fine with it. No need to justify. We have 4 cars and I like washing 3 of them. The minivan doesn't get too much love, just the needed attention. All of our cars are almost always shiny and looking proper. My wife knows I have a stressful job and that washing and detailing the cars is therapeutic for me. Sometimes she'll just come out and setup a chair and read her kindle or mess around with me and tell me I missed a spot. My kids are riding the scooters or quads around in the driveway while I do my thing or sometimes they try to help (9 and 6 yrs old). I wash at least 2 of the cars every week, either after work or during the weekend and it takes me about 1 hr each. Two of the cars are garage kept and don't get too dirty.

I think you can hone in on your car wash process. All of mine are coated (different coatings each, see my sig) and they wash fairly easily. i have a foam canon for a pre-soak, then i have foaming gel for the wheels, followed up by a brush and soap wash, then I rinse the entire car, and then I hand wash from top to bottom. i then use my echo leaf blower to dry the car and I'll use a drying aid depending on which coating I have on the car to finish it off. The drying aid helps w maintaining the coating. On my washes, I don't skimp either, i go after the door jambs and gas cap area, etc, not just a general wash. if i want it to take longer it can but usually I can get a car done in an hr or so. That includes glass, interior wipe down, sometimes vacuum, and tire dressing. Sometimes I'll use some Iron-X or like product on the car before I wash it, but not too often. One of my time savers is always having my wash gear ready. I have my buckets, soaps, all products, etc... ready to go all the time in my kids radio flyer. I just wheel it out and go to town. Anyway, good luck OP.

They still sell non-ethanol gas in my area and that is all I will use in my lawn equipment.

Honda Pilot. I guess i’m just taking my time a bit too much. Although i’m always quite happy with the resulta

If you're talking a weekly maintenance wash, that seems excessive. If you're doing a muddy or neglected vehicle with lots of brake dust and bug splatter maybe. I wonder if your process isn't efficient as it could be. Do you have a foam gun, is your hose nearby etc. Have you tried spraying your rims with hydro blue to make the cleaning easier? Do you have a good wheel brush and good wheel shine method? Do you have a trim and window sealant to make it easier and faster to wash?

I totally understand that a more thorough cleaning will take some time, but when I think weekly maintenance I think 30 minutes.

I'm with you here. For a maintenance wash, I'm generally just doing an exterior wipe down, wheels and tire gloss. That's the basic minimum and can be done in 30 minutes. Than every other wash I will do the windows and some rainx. I also might do a maintenance extender spray wax or some hydro blue on the rims. Then depending on the car I'll do interior, door jams etc. It certainly can be as quick as 30 minutes to as long as 2 hours if I'm doing trim and the works in and out.

With respect to the original poster, if my wife is on my ass about her car, I'm probably not doing all the bells and whistles and I'm picking and choosing when to do it. I have 3 boys age 6 and under. I pick a day to her car when the older 2 can be out there with me "helping". She likes that. But I also dont do the interior that often because it's just not worth it with the abuse that the explorer gets with 3 kids.
