I think bad things can happen to you if you snitch. I'd just shut my mouth and finish up the job. You're there to make money, not to give a customer a lecture on what they do in their spare time or what substances they put in their body.
This is somewhat true... Yeah if you are going to the cops with a "suspicion" of them being a dealer... Otherwise I don't think a druggie is going to come after me especially if I did it on the DL... But as I said (quoted last) I wouldn't call the cops...
This is a bit of an over-generalization, so it may not necessarily be true with all medications and in all states.
And Flannigan, I'm curious about the no drugs on your property policy- you say "illegal or legal", so does that include if I dropped my car off and I keep a bottle of Advil in the glovebox?
Sorry- haven't mastered the multi quote yet... But I think some of you guys jump to conclusions and go a little overboard, but bottom line is, it's your business and you get it run it however you feel fit. I'm not in business, so I don't have the same perspective. I only do an occasional friend or family car, so I'd probably just ignore the weed and give a little "WTF?" lecture about the meth...
Read the last quote of mine... On target...
i ignore them , i clean up interior , and leave everything where it is , i may take pictures for record, but i don`t see it as a big deal , remember you deal with people`s privacy and they trust you , why to ruin that?.......
The only issue I have here is yes it may be their privacy but when it gets to my shop it then becomes my privacy too... Not saying that there is not a level of respect for the client's privacy but for the blatantly obvious illegal (things other than pot) things you may find something should be said so that you don't have the same thing repeat again and make it so that "it is ok with you"...
This is a tough situation for me. I was in law enforcement and currently work as a government contractor. However, detailing a vehicle is a business relationship. I am not in the business of telling customers about the wrongs of illegal substances or how to live their respective lives. But I do have the option of NOT having to deal with that during a detail and can choose not to have them as a customer. A customer like that is not worth the hassle.
Not a bad perspective... It is your business...
:iagree: Completely agree; the same common sense is used by house-cleaners, dry cleaners ect. I'm surprised the drama's lovers in here did'nt want to make a citizens arrest!

I don't much care for making a scene and 99.9% of the time will not involve cops (just don't need the hassels)... I have in fact seen and heard of house cleaners leaving a job then calling the cops if they find something (that is if they are not one of the companies here that just got busted with their maids stealing drugs then selling them... lol...)...
This has been a really interesting thread to read through. I think my take away message is that you should be clear with your expectations with your customers upfront, especially if coming across contraband is a deal breaker for you.
I now send out an email to every customer the day before and ask them to "please clean out your vehicle of any sensitive items that you would not want moved or removed"
This seems to work well... Haven't found anything but a roach and that was in the area between the seat and the console...
Legacy, I think your "take away" is not even close. Does your clear expectations mean you should tell your customers upfront that if you find any drugs (contraband) that you will call the police.
Your "take away" should be clean the car and mind your own business.
Now, what if you find a dead body in the trunk? Hummm, any idea's are welcomed ASAP!
thank you for your prompt reply
Fussman
Dead body... Well that in fact is another discussion because if someone is bringing you a car with one in it there could be something happening to you eventually... lol...
Lets keep away from frustration though as this has been an interesting thread and it shows a lot of people's views on the subject...
Actually as far out as it may sound, I do think that if it is going to be that much of an issue that you are going to involve the police, the client should know that up front.
If you re-read what I actually wrote, I said nothing about what is the right or wrong thing to do, only that you should make your expectations clear depending on what you are comfortable with. Go back and re-read it, did I say to ignore anything?
Best that everyone be clear from the get-go if it is going to be that big of a deal; unless the goal is to purposefully put yourself into some sort of position of power over other people.
The rest of your reply is simply argumentative and will be disregarded.
Clarity with your client is the key! If you have an issue with it then you need to be up front with them...
This has been a very interesting thread... I must say when I was working for a dealership we were required to call the cops... I know that I personally would not call the cops unless it was a huge amount of "product" or a firearm (I have a felony from a stupid thing years ago so technically I can't even be around either thing)...
I like the idea of Yellow06GT's cousin! That is great I think I will use that if it is ok...
I have run into a lot of diabetic needles (all capped) so that doesn't bother me at all... I have been doing this for a while so I do use a very careful hand when reaching into places I can't see...
I know that the meth was meth... I tried it once in my pot head days (hence the felony) and it made me so sick it was disgusting... I have never touched the stuff again...
As far as finding the pot as I said I just didn't clean out that area of the vehicle... First not knowing if they were a medical user or otherwise ... If they are medi and I accidentally vacuumed it up that would be a theft charge (felony as it is a controlled substance) and if I am not mistaken with how jacked up the CS laws are here in CO if I even move it I can catch a charge of "tampering"... Not worth my while...
As far as the meth... I would not have called the cops
Thanks again for all of the input!
Thank you all for your input this has defiantly been a good read and given so many views... I have implemented some of them and appreciate it!
