How do you pay your employees?

Just thought of another 'gotcha'. When you pay by percent of job/gross, due you require that they do their own prep, i.e. get their two bucket filled, refill any spray lubes, general clean up?

Thanks in advance

Being an independent contractor they would need to own their own equiptment and supplies. I suppose you could lease them the equiptment and sell them the supplies on an as need basis though

I'm guessing that would differ by state would it not? For instance in Texas the vast majority of construction workers are paid ~contract labor. I was one and I supplied my labor, nothing else. Some need their own tools, ladders, etc., but never materials.

Boy, that's not the case here in NM. Contractors pay big time for Workman's Comp., etc. Even if part of the job is sub'd out, the sub pays.

I would be careful paying workers as independent contractors just because it's easier. The IRS is really cracking down on the classification between employees and independent contractors. There are certain rules that force one over the other.
