How I use the PC (videos & pics)

Hey everyone! I was a little bored tonight so I decided to snap a few videos of how I use the PC and how well the LC 7.5” pads work on the PC. A few people from this thread, http://www.autogeekonline.net/forum/porter-cable-7424-pad-forum/5454-7-5-lc-pads-pc.html, thought that the PC wasn’t powerful enough to handle these pads. Below are videos of me using the PC but also how I used Poorboy’s SSR1.

This is not a how to use a PC video. It is meant to show that even with a lot of pressure on speed 5 and speed 6, the pad on the PC will not stop spinning, on a flat surface. Take a listen to the PC motor and you can hear it bog down with pressure, but the pad keeps on spinning! Onto the good stuff:

This is how I prime my pads with all polishes, especially the SSRs:

Now smear the pad around on the paint and try to cover all of the pad before using the pad:

After I worked that area, I went ahead and continued on to the next panel using this much product (smile ):

Notice the lack of swirls and dust (I polished the whole truck with zero dusting with the above process):

After the polishing, I applied JeffsWerkstatt Acrylic Jett, thin is in!:

Now that I sucked you in this far, here is the part that you’ve all been waiting for…

This first video is with the PC 7424 on speed 5 using various arm motions, speeds, and pressure with a LC 7.5” polishing pad.



Now, here is the same process as the above but on speed 6. Notice the difference in sound, much louder, more speed, more rotation. Even with a lot of pressure, the pad barely slowed down.

nice vids, but you should see how much faster the pads move with my 4" edge 2k pads. I can move quite a bit quicker and polish out more defects that way. I admire the effort, but don't see the point in using that large of pads on the pc. 6" feels huge to me now.

great job on the post. Shooooot my 6" edge pads dont even spin with the slightest pressure and yet my ccs pads rotate great. Wonder why?

And here is for the ones who think that the 7.5" pads will not remove swirls. Below is a Chevy Impala that has over 100,000 miles (company vehicle). The sun was shining perfectly so I went outside with the camera, SSR2.5, 1 7.5" LC white polishing pad and 1 6" CMA polishing pad. I used both pads on speed 6. Below are the results.

I worked the polish in, maybe 2 minutes after priming the pad with SSR2.5, or until the polish looked like this:

Correct Joe. Sorry I don't have a prize to give you . I haven't used the Edge pads so I can't help you guys on that... but this is proof that the PC should keep the pad spinning on speed 5 and 6, on a flat surface, with pressure.

Good work in those outside photos, but you do know PB's polishes have fillers right? I'd be more impressed if you used a polish w/o fillers for that test. I bet by hand you could get 90% of those results with PB's polishes. Try a CG's pro polish + or menzerna polish and see how it does. The pad just isn't spinning near fast enough to do the work I expect out of my details. In the vids, it looks like it takes a second or two to spin the pad, where my buffing, the pads are moving very fast, almost like a rotary. I find that speed, more than pressure remove defects well on my PC. Personal preference.

Guess I didn't get that memo Nor did my pictures

Here are pictures the day after with not only one but two iso-alcohol wipedowns. Granted it isn't perfect because I would usually finish off with SSR1 and then an LSP, this was left bare. You may notice light swirls in the second picture but that is because I wiped off the pollen with the water and not with S&W.

Nimble ,Menz is my go to polish and its beeen awhile since i have used PBs SSRs ..i read this on AG's site ..I also remember reading it on Steves sight

SSR2.5 contains no silicone or wax.

my question is ..how did you come to a conclusion with the SSrs containing fillers??

That's good, that is exactly what I do. I give it a good wipe down with water/alcohol mix. The last picture is very typical on black vehicles, I just did one and what a pain black color is but at the end it looks wicked.

Thanks for the comments. I have so many tests in my head that I want to do but they never get done whether it is time constraints, weather conditions, camera battery dead, etc. I didn't think about doing a video... I think its decent enough to get the point across, plus I did it with my digital camera. Pretty cool that I can take pictures and video with sound with it. So hopefully in the upcoming weeks you'll see more posts like this from me...
