On my 2017 Subaru Outback I decontaminated -2 bucket wash-wheels- clayed-one step polish- alcohol wipe down- 1 coat csl and 2 coats of exo and it took me just under 9hours . Also I used a Flex 3401 with 5.5 pad for most of the polishing. I'm strictly an enthusiast but wonder how the rest of the pack would take to do this. I feel like I took a really long time

It doesn't seem too long to me. Did you have a lot of paint correction to do? That's where I am s-l-o-w. It could be because I am so o-l-d!

I did a one step correction orange pad with 205. It’s my daily so I wasn’t too concerned with a high percentage correction but I did get it pretty nice. I’m 51 ... an old 51, years of physically abusive sports have left me with “some” arthritis.

You're just a youngster! I'm looking at 70, but in great shape for a geezer.

9 hours sounds about right, but it also matters how much correction you needed to do. But, I'd say that's pretty much what I would be looking at for a 1 step.

For me that sounds about right. I might be an hour more or an hour less depending on if I touch the interior or if I'm detailing rims as well. No need to rush a coating job.

I know you're in great shape if you're still detailing cars. :-)

Thanks Kevin. It's my daily so I wasn't looking for a perfection but I was able to get it ..idk.. 75-85% corrected

No interior and only standard wash/cleaning of the wheels during the car wash. Definitely no need to rush. Good point. Thanks for the reply

Sounds about right to me. I just did the exact same (+dlux on trim and some old DP glass coating) last week on my daughters 2012 Focus. Took me 10 hours in 90 degree heat and humidity. I can relate to the "abused"...this is just the 3rd full detail I've done since having both knees replaced last year at 52.

I had my right hip resurface about 6 years ago. Detailing is definitely hard work but I really enjoy it. Always have . Even before I knew I was an “autogeek “.

I think you could have cut time off using essence. Just my opinion cause the working time is short and no needed wipe down with fluids after words.

Some don’t like it but it’s nice imo cause it literally one pass and done if you paint is acceptable after that one pass. It’s not a compound however so it’s not gonna work miracles

Eh, quicker than me. Usually takes 4 to 5hrs to wash, decon, prep car, about 8 to 12 compound polish, 4 to 6 coating paint, trim, glass, wheels and tires.

Kinda easily distracted at times so it's not all work, all the time...lotsa wandering around in garage.

Ah wandering in the garage.... now THAT’S my favorite garage activity !

That's not bad time. I find it so much faster when you have two people doing the coating. I'm curious, how long did you wait between the two coats of CSL, and between the CSL and first coat of EXO. The last person I heard of using two coats of EXO ended up with hazing issues after 12-14 hours.

I did one coat of csl and went back to the first panel I started with and applied a coat of exo. Waited 12 hours and applied a second coat of exo. Looks very clear

I also wander around in the garage, usually because I forgot what the hell I was doing in there!

Don't know how I misread that. I thought it said you put 2 coats of CSL and 2 EXO. Yeah one CSL and 2 EXO is right.

Seems about right to me. We just did a new Dodge Ram 2500 in CSL and Exo. Took two of us sixteen hours by the time we did all the prep and coating. Granted it’s a huge truck. That time also included full interior along with wheels off for coating and all trim coated.

Also did a Subaru WRX recently. Took two of us five hours to correct it. Total into the job was two guys and thirteen hours. Again, including interior and all trim along with wheels off.

We didn’t wait too long between coats. Once we went all the way around, we started over with the next layer. No hazing issues at all.

The coating process is so much faster with two people in my experience.

It really is. I know it’s not possible for everyone. I typically won’t book a coating unless both of us are available. It really is easier and quicker with more hands and more eyes.
