How long to wait before applying wax...?

I have never used the products you listed. If I had a white vehicle I would look into what Ronkh57 and Custmsprty use one theirs. They both have a few white vehicles each, and look pretty damn killer!

Thanks. I'll search their posts for some info.

I think you are wasting your time.

Sealants have solvents in them, when you apply a new coat of sealant on top of an existing one, the solvant will remove the previous coat. So you are not building up like you want.

What you can do, is top the sealant coat with sacrificial layer like a wax or even better, a spray wax. Then everytime you wash the car, use that spray wax as a drying aid to prevent scratching the paint and adding a little bit more protection on your paint.

Do all sealants have solvents? What about deep gloss or fusion wax?

I've found many posts on car forums where people talk about applying more than 5 coats of Klasse sealant. They all seemed happy with the results lol

I've definitely read 3 for klasse

OP, I know you said you were a noob so I'll go easy on you. First KSG requires 12 hrs of cure time in between coats, it's acrylic and needs to harden up.

There's really no need to use KAIO unless you feel like you need to clean the paint a bit but as always make sure the paint is exactly where you want it or can get it before you seal it up.

Now let's finish with applying KSG. There's NO need to let it dry up on the paint, here's how you really apply it and it makes life sooooooo much easier.

First you get a medium sized bowl and put water in it, half way is cool. Then get yourself a square, cotton or mf applicator and dunk it in the bowl. Next wring it out and put it aside. The next thing your going to need is a smallish spray bottle, say 4 oz bottle and pour the KSG in there. Having the KSG in a spray bottle allows you to easily control the amount of product used here, THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT!

Spray 1 to 2 sprays/squirts onto the dampened applicator. These don't need to be very large amounts either, less is more. Now it's time to apply. Using horizontal and vertical motions work KSG into a section of the paint. At some point it's going to look like the product isn't there but it is, TRUST ME! Once you done with the section it's time to wipe it off. Yes, it's still wet, don't worry about that, just dry it off and move along to the next section and finish the car.

Once it's done you'll need to wait 12 hours to apply the 2nd coat. At this point you should notice a pretty wet looking finish but wait till you apply the 2nd coat 12 hrs later. I've been using KSG since 2005 and that 2nd coat never disappoints...EVER!

This product also serves as the special ingredient in "FrankenDetailer 1.0" and that should be used to maintain the finish, to be used wet or dry, both work GREAT!

I find this very interesting... The overall consensus in this thread is that the solvents in the sealant could/would remove the previous layer of sealant. [which I agree with]

But what good is recommending a "spray wax" when the typical spray wax is something like Megs D156, which is actually a spray sealant that IME takes away whatever characteristics that my base layer sealant had and turns it into the inferior protection of D156. [which in turn leads my paint into contaminants bonding to it, compared to the good job my sealant can do on it's own]

Sounds alot like the solvents in sealant dealio going on doesn't it.

I will also apply wax (Collinite 845) after
the 3rd coat of Klasse sealant.
Regardless what the solvents in Klasse
HGSG may, or may not "do"...many are
going to apply more than one coat of it,
whether others approve of it or not.
(I wait at least 12hrs. between coats.)

Turning the focus from Sealants' solvents
for just a moment---to attend to the above
OP's plan RE: applying Collinite #845
after the last coat of Klasse HGSG...

•Does/doesn't Collinite #845 have solvents?
•If it does:
-what will they "do", or not "do", to the
underlying coat(s) of Klasse HGSG?
-Can/can't Collinite #845 be successfully
applied (layered) upon itself?

I've never applied more than 1 coat of any sealant, wax, or coating.
Do people really miss sections that bad when applying lsp? Lol.

My car is white. So I wouldn't even know whether I actually missed or not... Lol

Strangely, I occasionally wash my car in darkness but I've never questioned whether I miss a spot.

Hello. I have a question about sealant and wax.

I washed, decontaminated (Iron X and claybar), and applied a coat of Klasse sealant yesterday 2:30PM (Thursday). I buffed it off after half an hour or so.

And 11:00 AM today (Friday), I applied second coat of Klasse sealant. I buffed it off after 30 minutes.

Currently I'm at work, and I plan to apply 3rd coat of Klasse sealant later (maybe at 7:00 PM). This will be the last coat of sealant being applied to my car.

I will also apply wax (Collinite 845) after the 3rd coat of Klasse sealant. I was wondering whether the wax can be applied immediately after I buffed off the sealant....? Or should I wait until tomorrow morning (Saturday) to apply the wax...?

Thanks in advance.

Additional info: car was detailed in my garage, and kept in garage for the past 3 days of detailing process.

I've never used Klasse but I will toss my opinion out there that any more than 1-2 coat is likely a waste of time and product. I'm all for what you're attempting to do but I would put a couple weeks of curing and wear into it before topping it beyond 2 coats. Especially as it relates to the 845.

Again, wait a few weeks then perhaps top with 845 if the properties you're looking for aren't there.

Couldn't you have read this thread and posted this a day earlier??? I already waxed my car yesterday morning lol.

This is the first time I've heard about 2-week curing period for sealant... What is your reasoning behind this?

Also, is it safe to wax the car after "few weeks" of driving around? Wouldn't that somewhat contaminate the car, resulting in micro-scratches from waxing motion and buffing? I know I can apply spray waxes for inbetween washes, but can I apply waxes like Collinite once a month or so without claying?

It's not so much about curing as it is simply allowing the sealant to weather and wear down so that the top-coat can bond to it. I've been there done that in seeing a top coat of Collinite and other synthetic blends not bond and either smear, sweat or simply streak.

you'll be fine so long as you wash and dry it prior.

I know I can apply spray waxes for inbetween washes, but can I apply waxes like Collinite once a month or so without claying?

Yep. Unless you perform a baggy test and it comes back rough. Very unlikely though but in all honesty that will depend on how you care for your car and the environment it's in.

I.

Thanks. I'll apply another coat of Collinite before Labor Day. I rarely drive this particular car. Maybe 3000 miles per year at most. Always garage kept. Haven't come in contact with rain, snow or salt for the past 2 years.

Update:

So I finished the detail work, and my car's paint somehow looks... hazy....

It is not the wax/sealant residue. The reflection on the paint doesn't seem as deep as before. And the orange peel seems to be way more pronounced than before as well.

What could have gone wrong? I barely drove my car for the past year because I was so busy with my degree. Car never never came in contact with rain, snow or salt slush... Car was always parked in garage. Car was never taken to unfamiliar places during the one-year period (no exposure to chemicals, etc).

EDIT: maybe it's been awhile since I've had personal time with my car... Maybe it is the orange peel that has always been on the paint??? And I'm just noticing it now? Do different sealants have different effects on orange peel? For example, do some sealants hide orange peel better than others? Or does orange peel get worse over time as the car ages...?

No reply...?

Additional question:

I haven't washed the car since I detailed the car.... Drove the car once or twice a week in urban areas (maybe 30km per day). Kept the car in garage. Never been parked outside on the streets. Car is dusty. And there is a couple of dead bugs on the front bumper...

Did I ruin the car's paint? Should I re-detail the car?

I would like to get the detailing done tomorrow if required, so I appreciate any input...

Is it possible to attach photos of the final result? I'm sure that would help others assess what's possible for your next step.

OP here.. I was wondering whether it is ok to add another layer of wax without claying or decontaminating? My health has deteriorated over the past several months due to excessive cleaning, and i physically can't fully detail my car at the moment...

I drove my car less than 2000 miles. And it was also parked inside. Car was washed at least once in 10 days or so.

Thanks in advance
