how many of you guys are funny

Where we are going even determines what car I'm going to drive. Bad parking=beater daily driver!
I tried this years ago and it didn't work for me. After driving the "Beater" for about three months, it got painted, new wheels and received the same care as the other vehicles. Then I had one more to take care of.

You've heard of parking your car in the Timbuktu section of the parking lot?

I park in Timbukthree! :D

I have aftermarket floor mats over the factory mats.

I keep a supply of microfibers, QD, interior QD, QD for wheels and glass cleaner in my vehicles.

In my "baby" (2006 Mustang GT) I even keep a dustbuster vac to pick up anything that would show up on the mats.

I always park far away, but someone always finds me. As for my car, it's never been driven in the snow or rain. Well, maybe once I got caught in a light sprinkle. I was pissed!! My neighbors always tell me I'm going to wash the paint off. Of course I telll them, not with all the wax on my car.

Lawn sprinklers are another enemy of mine. All of my neighbors have misadjusted sprinkler heads so that they water the road as well as their grass. It's an obstacle course almost every morning dodging all the water.

Think of it as a daily Gymkhana.. runnin gthe slalom course! :D

I learned the true meaning of the saying "every cloud has a silver lining" when I became disabled. I now am entitled to use the handicap parking spaces. I must say they are more than just convenient as they are generally handicap van accessible they tend to be large enough to park an aircraft carrier in. Despite the extra wide berth I still seek out the end handicap space when ever possible as it generally borders a walkway or island on one side thus you are only exposed to another vehicle on one side. When i have a choice between end spaces I always choose the one that buts up to an island rather than a walkway thus avoiding the potential of a handicap person crashing his power scooter into my ride. As far as towels over the carpet I have found that the small boxes that 6 packs generally come in are great to put on top of the floor mats. The walls of the boxes are only a couple of inches high and the boxes are wide enough for the largest of feet to fit into comfortably. After a few days they are simply placed in the recycle bin with other cardboard items. The low walls of the box enable it to contain any dirt that might fall of the shoes thus keeping the carpet mats clean.

Having driven a "show" vehicle regularly, I have done all sorts of stuff to keep the several thousand $ paint job (alone) perfect.

I have learned the following regarding parking lots.
When you park out away from everything, you are a sitting duck. I have had 2 unwanted events occur when parked like so, and 0 the way I do it now.
Now, I park in the least accessible part of the lot. Usually a side lot, or back lot even. Also I will always park the curb if possible, and hug it really tight. Even when there are other cars there, they are usually the workers vehicles, and you will be in and out before they leave. If you frequent the same place, look for the same vehicles that are always there, and park next to them. If nobody is getting in and out, you are protected by their vehicles!

A story for all you "lone parkers"...
One time at Wal-Mart I saw a buggy start at the middle of the lot, and roll, gaining speed straight into the door of a newer Black Mustang. I would rather have a ding to buff out! Have also seen a few near hits of people wandering aimlessly through the bottom of a lot and almost crunch a car out there alone.

As for the rest of it, yes, I am the same. Rubber mats on top of the carpet ones, etc.

With parking, I like to describe my distance using a variation of a line from "A Christmas Story" when Ralphie was standing in line to see Santa. I always tell people that I parked so far away, I'm in Terre Haute.

I also do the "walk around" to check for dings. So far, so good with that. My question is, what do you do if you find a door ding? I would be rather beside myself...

Another anal driver checking in. I usually park many many spaces away from the nearest car. I also park in a manner that a renegade shopping cart will not roll towards my car, on an incline. The only time I park with other cars is when I drive my beater. It is beat-up, what more can they do to it. Additionally, I take great care to not hit other cars with my beater's door. I tell my girlfriend to be careful opening her door also. I get made fun of, but as long as it gives me peace of mind, I don't care.

I don't cover the floor mats on any of my cars. They've paid the price. I need new floor mats.

Go and smash my door against the person who did it..... haha only joking, I'd certainly be quite pissed though! I'm not too sure what I'd do though as I've got door dings, but they've happened before I was an Autogeek, infact they happened while I was learning to drive because I would park in the easiest space to drive into (because I was a learner driver of course ;), I no longer suck a parking haha)

Same here, at my job I drive a lot of different cars (try 50-100 each day) and when I park them, even though they're not my car, I always put my hand around the end of the door so if the space is so tight that I *HAVE* to make contact with someone elses door, there is no damage. Luckily all the guys I work with are like that so no damage is ever done from door dings.

I don't cover my floor mats either, but I find that keeping them ScotchGarded (+ they're black in colour) helps to keep them clean. If they get dirty I just pull em out and give them a scrub in the laundry sink, spin them nearly fully dry in the washing machine and leave them to fully dry overnight infront of the dehumidifier. Works a charm!

I also park way in the back but down here I had one of the senior drivers (I think) hit the bumper on my car and knock the paint off. They never left anything and no one was even parked by me when I came out.
