how much can you do in 10-14 hours of detailing ?

Wow, do you do any prep? What machine and how many passes per section?

I've been thinking about adding a package with a light machine cleaning step with no scratch removal. Just better cleaning for better LSP performance.

My process would be :
1.waterless wash
2.all in one one step (polish, glaze, sealant)

I only clay if a vehicle has over spray on it. I dont tape off anything. I use the Portercable 7424xl, and I don't know how many passes a section but I do go over most sections quite a bit. I think you should add a one step with an all in one wax.

2 hours preparing for polishing washing the car, wheels, door jams, engine.

30-90 minutes, sometimes there is heavy overspray and it takes nearly 90minutes to finish the claying proces. Normal clay should be done for 30 minutes.

Correction procces I always use lamswool and rotary for this step. It can go from 4 hours, on softer paint or lighter colors or not very bad condition to start. Till 10/12 hours harder paints, hevily scrached paints, black paints.

Finishing polish 3-5 hours, because I must work it properly, going from wool to finishishing polish, I have to get a maximum from finishing polish.

All in one polish, 3-5 hours. Can be done even for one hour, but you miss a lot trying to do quicly. Washing, claying which is very importat for all in ones, dressing, windows all of this for 1/2 hours it's not a job done properly.

Its all about your customers and your communication wit them. Based off what they tell me they're looking for I may offer them a one step and I explain to them what they're getting. They're happy with my work I'm happy with the value I captured. I think we as detailers get caught up in our work sometime. And its easy to go overboard with all the techniques and products we know and use. But at the end of the day our clients want a clean vehicle and I deliver results.

ADERET it takes me 2hrs TOPS to do a one step and washing NO interior. BTW I only do claying if I'm dealing with over spray. When working tho, if I don't have another car afterwards I sometime find myself working and doing little extra things til the customer comes
Wow. Apparently I'm doing it all wrong. Impressive......

Me too, 6 hours for a one step, but I almost always nano skin the paint.
Same here. My Rupes doesn't touch paint unless it's been gone over with a prep towel.....doesn't matter if it's an AIO or a full blown correction

This weekend I washed, Nanosponged, polished/sealed, and waxed my wife's Chrysler 300. Worked about 6.5 hours Saturday and another maybe 2 Sunday doing the wax. All by hand.

In 10-14 hours - I can get about half way through my Harley Ultra Limited; or do my Softail Deuce twice.

I worked at a local car wash and was a detail manager for some years. My boss made sure we had at LEAST 5 details a day. Most were interior detail plus a 2 step polish n wax. My boss showed us techniques and gave us tips to work in a more efficient manner. We did production detail but we certainly didn't skimp on quality and our customers were satisfied. Our objective right?! Satisfied customers. I took what I learned there and applied it to my own endeavors

How many is "we" that were doing 5 detail a day?

Please share your time saving techniques.

4 detailers could do 5-6 details a day. 2 on a vehicle at a time. One person interior one exterior. Tips on saving time:
A bucket, hot water and degreaser works wonders on an interior. Just wipe! I keep my detailer paint brush close so I can get cracks and crevices. How its diluted matters. Has to be strong enough to remove dirt and grime and not too strong that you discolor panels. Idk about you guys but I,use to be that guy with a scrub brush, spray bottle of degreaser and a towel. I'd spray, scrub, wipe, look over every section thinking I shoulda been praised for my quality when I was getting chewed out over my speed lol. Of course having your customer car clear and free of their belongings speeds up the process. On the wax tip to save time focus on the key sections that customers see. The whole vehicle get touched BUT focus more energy and time on the hood, front quarter panels, trunk(on a car) and middle section of the doors. I dont do extensive paint work under normal circumstances. My customers wanna see some scratches removed, scuffs gone, and just a shiny car that's overall better than the condition they handed it over to me in feel me?! They're happy it looks great. I'm happy I didn't spend a lifetime on one car! Now go forth and be great my brethren lol

So each Detailer was doing 1.25 to 1.5 vehicles a day.

That sounds reasonable to me, especially for production level work

Any additional tips will be greatly appreciated

Yeah when you average it out 1.5 is correct. What helps tho is knowing your customers. Many of the customers that use to come thru my job are now my customers. Not MANY tho because I could take 10% of they're customers and they would STILL be OK lol. I prolly couldn't even service 10% without a shop(I'm mobile) or a great crew. But again...know your customers, find out their expectations, AND DELIVER! And believe it not many customers just want their car to be better than what it was

IDA Webinar - How to use a one-step cleaner/wax

:xyxthumbs:

i think that i am doing something wrong in term of my timing and qualityquantity of my labour for a day and i will explain ( with my bad English (-: ).

usually a daily detailing job for me is something like 10-14 hours including preparing taping and clay (straight )-deepens on the size of the car and the LSP (coating or a simple sealant ).

The difference in applying a coating or a sealant is a huge time factor. What's the difference in price?

in those 10-14 hours i am doing 1-2 polishing steps max.

1 - 2 polishing steps plus sealing the paint would be 2-3 steps.

Steps = the things you do to the paint.

A true one-step is using a cleaner/wax.

most of my Colleague claim that they can do one step in 4 hours and 2 steps in 6-7 hours and so.

That sounds right.

i know from a fact that i am using a better gear and products then the most of them,i am using FLEX 3401 as a machine,"scholl concepts" s20,A15',S30,"menzerna" FG400,SF4000, "RUPES UHS" AND a very quality pads from scholl concepts,LC and menzerna.

All good stuff.

in general i am tending to work on a long stepsworking cycle per PANEL and i am NOT wasting any time,i am working like a machine with no rest at all.

What are you working on though? Daily drivers or show cars?

99% of my Reviews are excellent (I'm doing it for a living) but i feel Frustrated because i am sure that i can do so much more in 10-14 hours, not mention the pain after 14 hours labour.

What are you working on though? Daily drivers or show cars?

i don't have my own place whats makes 2-3 days to work on a car just not worth Economic.

Where are you located?

any ideas about something wrong that i am doing about my "rhythm" qualityquantity ?

is that the time to switch to a rotary machine ?

The rotary is the king of speed correction but it has it's risks. The big question here is what type of cars are you working on?

:)

"The difference in applying a coating or a sealant is a huge time factor. What's the difference in price?"

the different in price when i am adding coating is not worth it and i am trying to avoid it from economic reasons.
usually it's the equivalent of 200$ that Plays the price of the coating(expensive in my country)+paint cleaners(GT panel wipe)+microfibers that i will not able use anymore+another 3 hours of labour+renting the place for another day if it was a big job from the first place.
i am doing it because it's a part of my business but i am not getting any profit from that.

"1 - 2 polishing steps plus sealing the paint would be 2-3 steps.

maybe it's my mistake when i am consider a "step" only as a polishing step....
for me "one step" can be "wet sand"+polishing step+paint sealant so probably my world of concepts is a bit wrong and now i know why "1 step" can take me so long...not mention that usually i do some tuchup paint if i need to do it.

i still Looking for a fast aggressive compound(more then the FG400) with a SHORT working cycle (not like the FG400)..

"What are you working on though? Daily drivers or show cars?"

most of my projects are daily drivers-you can see them in my website:

this tahoe took about 5 hours for exterior detail.

used same flex you are using, clay mitt, and 3D HD speed on orange LC pad, and wolfgang sealant.

you should look into other products.

impressive, how long it takes you to do 1 pass ?
