Hi, I am doing a detail on an Acura TL this week. I think the leather is coated, because the owner showed me a spot on the leather that the last detailer said was dye transfer/removal. I don't want to use anything that could ruin the coating or cause more wear.

I have Lexol leather cleaner and Sonüs leather conditioner. I also have Meguiar's APC. I noticed o my last leather cleaning, the APC worked wonders on some spots that the Lexol was too mild to hit. Can you use APC full strength? If not, what dilution is safe for grimy leather?

Me personally, I only use dedicated leather cleaners and conditioners for any of my leather interiors or clients.

Don't use the APC at full strength. That is asking for trouble. Start at 10:1. A soft bristled brush works well to agitate it.

I also don't use APC on leather and stick with a dedicated leather cleaner.

10:1 and you'll be good. [10 parts water 1 part concentrate]

The scrubbing of leather with apc dwell time is a recipe for promblems. If you have to scrub, then dilution is weak.I use a product that is intended for leather just spray and wipe even on trashed leather.Everyone has there own methods if it works for you then fine.

Thanks you guys! I'll just use my Lexol and Soft Grey PC brush on the 7424. No need to tempt fate!

IMO Lexol doesn't clean worth a squat.. Using it w/porter cable brushes sounds alot more aggressive + ineffective compared to Megs APC@10:1 w/either a horsehair brush or a soft nylon brush by hand.

Just my 2 cents.

I would love to mention a killer leather cleaner without all that labor involved.forum rules

10/1 and you will be fine. Agitate with a soft brush or the pc method. You won't hurt a thing.

I don't use MEGS APC, but I got tired of the lexol crap real quick. I use CG NONSENSE at 15~12:1 for leather and all interior surfaces besides cloth/carpet(and every once in a while I even use it on those in some cases).
I just grab my spray bottle and a scrub brush I got at a big box store and go to town. Never had any problems

I suggest you start with 10:1 APC. If that doesn't do it you can use a 4:1 APC. If it's still not enough Meg Super Degreaser at 4:1 will remove pretty much anything. I have yet to find a stain that can resist that.

The trick is to agitate with a brush. I normally use a medium size brush with soft bristles, but you could go with a tooth brush if it's a small area. Make sure to clean the whole seat if you do that afterward otherwise you will have a super clean spot showing up in the middle of a dirty seat :)

Suggest to your client to apply some protection afterwards. Will prevent problems in the future.

I recently moved to D181 for leather. I have to say I really like it. Cleans nicely, suds up good, and smells awesome. Wipes off with no residue left behind ready for a conditioning!

I've also stepped up to Megs D181 Leather Cleaner. But before that I used to use Megs APC@10:1 with good results.

Meguiar's D181 is great. I prefer it over APC as well.
