Got a white dodge 2500 king cab tomorrow.
Steps:
-Clean rims and tires
-Degrease undercarrage and wheel wells w/ PW
-wash with foam gun, MF mitt, bucket w/ GG, and PW
-dry w/ MF and blower
-decon with water spot remover then nanoskin mitt wash
-dry
-maybe a quick hit of SSR1 if time allows
-seal with EX-P
-clean windows
-dress tires and undercarrage
-top with AW

Looking at 6-8 hours. Thinking of charging 180. Thoughts?

Thanks, thinking of making that (other than the SSR step) my protection package. I'm still working on my prices.

Seriously I suggest you read Renny Doyle's book. It gives you lots of insight into the business ends of the business. And you can get it for $10 on the iBook store or the kindle store.

if its not necessary, dont foam the vehicle.. i know it looks cool and "omg im such a professional for using a foam gun" but it does add more time.. i'd skip that
and i wouldn't dry after the wash.. go ahead and move on to your waterspot removal and claying

and ditch the SSR1 step
if the customer isn't paying for the add ons... then dont do em

you expect the customer to be like "omg bro my paint is so slick hell yes"..but he probably won't care

I got the book on Kindle but haven't had time to read it. I know I need to. I been picking at it but I need to find time to sit and read it cover to cover.

Agreed on the foaming step, I only do that on small cars and my own. I'm only using one bucket because I feel it's a little overkill with a foam gun. I'll just have the bucket with regular water and a cap full of klasse AIO inside. As for the SSR step, I'm doing it for my uncle so I want to do as much as I can for his truck. Normally I would not. Thanks guys for the help. And yes no interior, I'm steaming the door jambs after the wash too. Sorry forgot that step.

I think that's a good price, especially if a family member wants to pay it lol. Sometimes they're the worst! Gotta love em anyways though lol.

Are you positive that you can do all that you've mentioned within the time frame that your giving yourself? If not, your hourly rate is going to drop off quite fast for ever your over.
I would be at $300-$350 w/o any correction.

ahhh okay, that makes sense

hit the jambs with your pressure washer, apc, agitate, rinse

I have been served well with an hourly rate. You estimate the work time and go from there.

Well completed the job in 7 hours. Didn't get to do the SSR step but I did fix a spot a detailer previously messed up. Looks like they did a test spot but screwed something up. Maybe burned it I don't know I never seen it before. Here it is

Not sure what happened but got out the rotary with 4 inch pads and hit it with 105 about 5 or 6 times and it's came back to life. There in turn I created a different problem. The spot is the only place where the paint is flawless!!! Even the scratches from his dog hanging off the side was gone!

Thank god for tarminator because the lower side panels were covered in tar and oil. Had not time to seal it so I put on 2 coats of aquawax. I got some tar in my nanoskin mitt now but not a lot. And I de greased under the hood because he asked me if I could do that. Yes I didn't have to do the correction but I couldn't stand looking at that mess. Also I didn't want people to think I left that garbage on there. Alright, I need a beer.

haha don't worry, we all have those moments where we can't help it

But don't get use to doing that

Now review your process and see where you could have saved time or what you need to speed up on to cut the time down!

the only reason I did that was because it was for family and it looked horrid. I went through 1 and a half of bottles of tarminator! I could have saved a lot of time if I had TRIX on hand because the paint was covered in iron spots that took forever to clay. Tarminator works but it leaves that residue behind, even after pressure washing it. I get more trucks than cars to detail here in Hawaii so I should get me some TRIX. Also most are lifted with off road tires so even more tar and junk gets on the paint. On another note I did not get a chance to get to the door jambs but he said it was ok since I fixed that mess on the back panel and degreased under the hood. That was more important to him.

really? doesn't the water get all over the place? the steamer works good for me but I didnt have time to get to it today.

You just have to aim the water a bit. Some water always ends up inside even if you're careful

Inspection

I always inspect the vehicle and use an inspection form and camera if needed. This doesn't take a lot of time but it does give me the opportunity to identify problem areas and bring them to the customers attention.

Pricing

There's a lot of variables that come into play when pricing your work. Vehicles condition, level of experience, full time or part time business, overhead, geographic location etc etc.

This is an example of my basic package. It's nothing fancy but it does address the areas most important to the customer and I always throw something in as a bonus.

I always make sure the dash and anything in direct sight of the driver is top shelf, I want to impress for customer satisfaction.

Doing work for family and friends always puts you in the red area rather then the black which of course is OK, we all do it.

Thanks for that. Yes I need to get better at reading paint. I have to know my limits because I want to get everything out.

with a garden hose you it will... well depends what nozzle you have

but with a pressure washer its not that bad.. put it on 'sniper' setting and always blow AWAY from the interior

you can put a couple towels on the dash/seats if you're worried about overspray

you WILL get some in the interior, but just wipe it off and you'll be set
