How should I clean my shop vac filter?

I tried cleaning mine but made a hell of a mess. So I just bought a new one.

Get a box of TSP (Tri Sodium Phosphate) put the filter in a plactic container and soak overnight in the solution of 1 pound TSP per 5 gallons of water. Hose down with a gentle rinse NOT A HIGH PRESSURE NOZZLE - then let drain and dry (this may take 2 days). Then put it back in.

TSP at one pound per 5 gal is a very caustic solution. TSP is banned in some communities and should not be poured down storm drains. Use the sanitary drain system please.

Be careful. TSP will de-gloss anything it comes in contact with so keep that solution away from your automobiles.

I have been using Krud Kutter diluted 1/4 cup to one gallon warm water. Agitate in bucket, rinse and air dry.

Good luck.

I just used 2/3 cup in 1 1/2 gal of water to wipe down some areas to paint. No gloves. Following is my experience of a "poor mans manicure". My fingernails never looked cleaner. It ate off my cuticles. Pretty sure it ate off my fingerprints, lol. Still looking good three days later.
