I see that most recommend to apply sealant in a straight back/forth motion even though directions may say circular what about waxes?

Its all personal preference for applying either one. Some like to apply in straight lines, some circular, some by machine. I have done each of them and see absolutely no difference in the outcome.

Yup! I too have applied it in circular motions but now I prefer straight line motions as there's always a probability of any dust particle getting on the applicator pad.

Chk these out -

I apply both with a machine; Porter Cable 7424 DA polisher. The polisher's motion is orbital and I guide it in a straight line pattern so I guess I do both.

It's all personal preference. :props:

In those videos I explained the why behind the technique of applying in straightlines but it is personal preference.

Personally... I prefer to do as much of the paint polishing process as possible by machine including machine applying waxes and paint sealants, even cleaner/waxes.

Some aspects of a detail project have to be done by hand or should be done by hand but if it can be done by machine that would be my personal preference.

:)

I like the straight line method (horizontal then vertical) since it seems less effort than circular motions with same coverage.

Also while debating wax application technique, don't forget to try the bare hand application at least once. It is kinda fun. I apply my Zymol Atlantique by bare hands, it is very relaxing and you can get the wax into places that are difficult to reach by applicator precisely.

I've always thought about applying wax by hand just never have.( I do however always apply leather conditioner by hand)

Hummmm. Will have to give that a try the next time I apply wax.
Have to wait a few months though. Its thirty-five degrees out as I am typing.
Only suppose to get up to the mid forties today.

I'll try applying souveran paste by hand when it arrives!

Sounds like fun! :D
