How to Clean Carpet Mats

Wow very informative post. I've been waiting for a post that describes such a process with out using a carpet extractor, so I really appreciate you taking the time. Two things came to mind:

A. Pre-treating
Do you pre-treat any tough spots, PRIOR to your step #1? If not, why?

B. Folex
Currently I have Folex, though I have yet to use it on a detail. Would you recommend using this product for both pre-treating and for creating suds? Would a dillution be neccessary?

Thank you Dan!

I havent really needed to pre-treat the mat with anything. My process with the Woolite 8:1 works fine. Now if youve got something that you think might not come out, then what I would do is spray some Folex on that spot, then work on another mat so the Folex sits for a minute, then continue on the Folex mat as normally.

Wonderful, I'll pre-treat if the spot is REALLY bad. I take it from your response you endorse my use of Folex?

A lot of people here use it, I havent used it personally. But only because I havent had a chance to make it out to Home Depot.

When you go to Home Depot....Grab a jug of the Zep carpet cleaner.....super product....get the extractor formula....low suds...clean rinse...1 gallon makes 24 gallons...and smells good also..the zep line cleaners really work good...

Thanks Al. Do you use this on tough spots, or as the main cleaner?

Dan,

What speed do you run the machine at while brushing?

3-6 is fine. Use slower speeds on more plush carpets. Higher speeds can be used on more durable carpets.

I've purchased the white and gray brush, can't wait to try this out using the Folex. Dan, the gray brush is OK to use on leather? What about perforated leather?

If you use it on leather, then just use it by hand and be very gentle. Only do it if a MF isnt enough. Is perforated leather uncoated leather? If so, then no, I wouldnt use anything to clean it other then a damp MF. And watch what conditioner you use on uncoated leather.

Dan,

Great write up! I've never tried that before...

When you say 8:1 ratio is that 8(water) and 1(woolite) or vice versa? Also, I may have missed it but what about the interior carpets? Obviously you can't take a pressure washer inside  So, I'm going to assume you just spray with the solution, scrub with porter cable and then vacuum? TIA for the info!

Yep, thats water to Woolite. For the interior I use DP total interior cleaner, PC, then vacuum.

Thanks Dan! I figured you would just spray and vacuum. Hahahah...scary thing is I could see myself make the mistake of using the pressure washer on the interior...hahahh Im the MAN
