It stopped the suds, but we still have a spot in the carpet. I have been pouring water on it daily and shop vacuuming it up. It seems to be improving. I think once we get all the soap out, maybe it will dry.

Good, now you're making progress. Do you have access to a steamer? That'll be your best friend now. If not, keep on with the shop vac method, just make sure you get that carpet completely dry (that's where the steamer helps too). I'm assuming it's removable?
