how to clean these wheels?

It's only the backside. I am not sure what to use on it. I used sonax FE on it and this is as best I could get using a variety of brushes. Does it need something more aggressive then a brush?

iron x, clay, megs wb. I've personally never clayed a wheel. I would start with iron-x or trix from car-pro. If that is no good then maybe megs wheel bright.

iron-x? I didn't think that is stronger then the sonax FE. Also wheel brightner is not recommended to be used on wheels like this. It might corrode. I do have the megs WB though and also the non acid stuff but its not that strong even if I use it straight.
 
do not use wheel brightener on the wheels, iron-x, clay, and trying other "safe for all wheels" cleaners would be my approach, (maybe use finish kare soil and coating remover).
 
Is that brake dust or CV grease? The stickers are clean so I'm not thinking CV grease, but maybe try some tarminator if you have it handy or another degreaser.
 
are they unfinished aluminium? I know some people say they have better results with trix over sonax.
 
I have this same issue on my Pathfinder. Rather than tell you what will work, I can tell you what doesn't work and what I plan on trying next that I believe should work.

I tried IronX (didn't do squat), PBs Spray and Rinse Wheel Cleaner, scrubbing, clay, and even mineral spirits. It helped, but the embedded stuff is still in there.

I probably would only use Wheel Bright on those wheels as an absolute last resort - although I don't think it will remove that stuff completely.

What I believe should work best, and what I plan on trying next is P21S Polishing Soap and possibly P21S Multi Surface Restorer. These products can clean up the nastiest exhaust tips - so I'm thinking they should work good here.

The MSR isn't supposed to be used on "paint" I believe, but the defects it may possibly leave should be better than black embedded brake dust.

Spokes are painted, lips might be clear coated and the barrel might be unfinished.
 
Wow two piece gram lights. Hand made in japan baby! I used iron x and then p21s polishing soap for the remainder. Wheel barrels take time to make look good it's the bottom line. I will tell you a secret that works good, I use 3m adhesive remover with micro cloth and do spot cleaning also. I recommend that you use this product in a well ventilated are and also with proper gloves l.
 
Ok, check somewhere like eastwood products or caswell plating, even harbor freight for their metal polishing kits. They go on a drill or die grinder, they will have a few different bars that offer a cutting agent. That might be your best bet if its just plain polished aluminium.
 
Proper care would be required to protect the painted parts of the wheels but I would try Duragloss 860 HD Aluminum cleaner and brightner. I have never used this on wheels myself but I have used it as a precleaner before polishing aluminum with great results. On DG's website it says it is also made to remove brake dust so I think it should work for your situation.

I really like the wheels not mention the tires Falken 615s. I would love to see a picture of the wheels on whatever car they were on.

What about the mothers polishing cone?
I have metal polish but didn't think I would need to use that but if it's the only way to clean the barrel then I guess I will have to get some sand paper too to re polish the lips as well.

And as for a picture of the car they are on.

Do a test spot using a Magic Eraser.

If that does not work, do a small test spot with metal polish and 0000 Steel Wool.

Those LOOK like alloy aluminum wheels and sounds like you are pretty sure they are.

If it was my car, and there is any doubt...I would contact the manufacturer; determine for sure what they are made of and proceed from there.
 
I'm not sure if the foam cone could withstand what your about to do to it! The spiral sewn buffs should hold up, it's what i used back when i stripped my motorcycle frame.

My suggestion would be to try PDP Custom Wheel Cleaner and a brush. If that doesn't try PDP Acid Cleaner very diluted (quick rinse and spray) and a brush. Flush the wheel with ALOT of water.
