How to deal the the ignorance?

This is why I don't offer express "detailing" to random people that I haven't had the chance to educate and evaluate their vehicle and their desires for said vehicle.
Like Mike Phillips says, sometimes it's best to let the other guy have the "blessings" of dealing with risky vehicles/people.:)
What I would do, if your going to keep offering these services to the masses/uneducated, is stick to selling them on your recommended service(s). If they only want a "clean" vehicle at the moment but are willing to schedule something in the future then even better for you at the time. Also, instead of showing someone what didn't work, show a test spot of the service you recommended that would have worked.
The pleasures of dealing with the public:D

People are goofy, man. I work at a Toyota dealership in Parts (I elaborate on that because I don't want people think I'm a mechanic or a car salesman, lol) and this one lady had her car serviced and "detailed" and was also given a loaner car. Well, I checked her loaner car in and she wanted to see her car first before she left. She was so nit-picky about how her car was cleaned. I thought to myself, "If you're that nit-picky, you gotta it yourself." This is exactly why I clean my own car. I'm very picky and I like to do things a certain way. You couldn't pay me to have my car detailed by anyone unless it was by Mike Phillips or someone similar, lol. Even then, I'd cringe, lol, and that's simply because I enjoy doing it all myself, no help, no nothin'.

Anyway, people who want their ride to be detailed for real, they'll pay the money. People who don't care, they expect to pay next to nothing, but get the best job done to their car. Guys at work want me to wash/clay/wax their cars, but they'll say they don't wanna drop a decent amount of money. At that rate, I'll tell them that I'm not gonna work for free or close to it. The most I've made detailing one car was $150, that included the wash, clay, sealant and also cleaning the interior... 6 hours or so worth of work, so I made around $25 to $30 an hour. I find that reasonable and the cars I've detailed (all 3 of them within the family), they were happy with the results.

I'm rambling here. The point is that a lot of people don't understand a true detail. When they hear what kind of money it takes, they freak out and immediately think they're overpaying. At one point in time, I would have said the same thing. Once you get into it and do the work yourself, you realize what really goes on and what kind of money it takes to get that end result.
