How to get rid of winter dirt around wheel well?

OK I am sure this is a newbie question but I have a serious problem with grime that is baked into the lower panel. You know, the place where soon after you detail your car above mud flaps gets dirt immediately? This whole section has bumpy grit that I can't seem to get off - and I don't want to abrade too much on the paint. So may I ask for input for ongoing removal and protection of this area of the car?

I am thinking there may be product(s) out there that can help to lift off this baked in contamination but I am open to suggestions and advice, thanks!
 
Have you tried a degreaser or all purpose cleaner. An iron remover might work.

Before the wash, spray on a product like Poorboy's World Bug Squash, let it dwell while you wash your first section of the car. Then use a bug sponge, mine is a rectangular yellow "brick", to remove the majority of the heavy grime. After the wash, if you still have grease, road grime or other goo, I use Turtle Wax Bug & Tar Remover with a foam sponge. Some cars are bad enough that they require an aggressive clay to remove the little bits still stuck on. But that may require polishing afterward, and surely will require that you re-wax.
 
I have the Turtle Wax product and sponge but have not tried the Poorboy's product. I should also mention that I use my AR pressure washer as part of initial rinsing, which gets the first layer, but this sounds good as a second and third level approach. I will give this a try and report back. Thanks!
 
As an additional note about Turtle Wax Bug and Tar, and you may already know this, its not a instant wipe on wipe off type of product. It seems the longer you gently wipe the bug gut or road tar, the chemical starts to break it down and remove it. I've wiped over several bad spots that didn't appear to be coming off, but after a few minutes of patience, success.
