How to put a 3" FLEX backing plate on Makita PO5000C

At this time Autogeek no longer sells the Makita PO5000C gear-driven orbital polisher. The tool itself is not discontinued but Autogeek has discontinued selling it.

That said, I get asked how to put a 3" backing plate on this tool and while I'm NOT a fan of tiny backing plates on large tools, we do sell a FLEX backing plate that fits on the spindle of the Makita PO5000C and we also sell all the foam buffing pads you'll need if you want to go down this road.

And the word I coined to describe tiny pads under large or full size tools is

Tippy

Pictures kind of do the talking...

As for pads - when it comes to gear-driven tools, both rotary and orbital, you don't need thin pads so might as well get thick pads. I find the Lake Country 3.5" Hybrid pads fit the FLEX backing plate really well and work as good as can be expected and hoped for when used in this configuration.
