For those of you that detail RVs & trailers, what do you find to work best on removing black streaks?:thankyousign: for your help! :buffing:

What type of streaks are they? Can you tell what caused them? Might get a more precise answer with that info. Maybe even some pics if you can.

I personally don't have any experience detailing trailers or RVs, but figured I'd ask that those questions to see if maybe I can help.

Any cleaner wax or AIO should take care of the black streaks caused by the rubber roof.

Dave

A high pressure washer usually takes of the black stuff I find on rv's but don't know if were talking about the same thing without pics

7-11 through the RV dealer works good along with a cleaner called Reliable. If you're waxing it, that should take it off as well.

The buses I sometimes clean up get some real bad black streaking from the black rubber window seals and from the roof never being cleaned. I use an alkaline based all purpose cleaner sprayed with a garden sprayer from the bottom to the top, then blast them clean with a pressure washer.

I section the bus off to maybe 8 foot areas at a time so the cleaner doesn't dwell for too long.

It is really important to spray the cleaner starting at the bottom and working your way up to the top because if you start at the top first the cleaner will run down the sides of the RV and will have more dwell time in the areas that it ran down and those areas will be cleaner than the rest of the RV and it looks very bad and is nearly impossible to correct without breaking out the compound and rotary. Nothing like giving away a free compounding.

Surf City Grime Destroyer worked well for me used 1:1 most of the time some occasions I needed to use straight

Ahhhh the lovely black streaks. I just love enjoy cleaning those off of my dad's RV..... not. When we do clean them off though, he uses a high pressure chemical sprayer with a product called 4U diluted in it. I'm not sure if it strips the wax or not at his dilution but it brings the streaks off after using a long handled scrub brush. I don't care if it strips the wax though. It's not mine and I don't take care of it usually. It's mostly him that does the work on that giant even though every summer we have family waxing on the sucker using paint sealant.

:thankyousign: for the reply's & info. I'm looking for something that AG sells that you have used with success. I didn't post pictures because I'm just getting supplies ready to add RV's to our list of services. Thank you so much for the HELP!!!!:buffing:

I have Amazing Roll Off. I got it right before it got cold so I've only gotten to use it 3 or 4 times, but I've been pretty impressed with it so far. :dblthumb2:

But have you used it for what you are recommending it for?

How about something made specifically for it? Like Duragloss Marine RV Black Streak Eliminator
Wow, Richard, I thought I knew every DG product, but this is a new one on me. Good find, bud!

This will definitely work. I have lots of personal experience with it.

I'm not surprised. Their products just plain work. To the original poster: Did Richard's link not take you to the AG site for this DG product? I thought so. Ciera, ARO may also work but I'll take a DG product over another any day of the week...for cost AND effectiveness. That's why they've been in business for so long.

I have done my share of RVs (as I live inside of an RV resort). Most of these black streaks are seen on the white RVs. There are two types of RVs that you're dealing with... the ones with full painted graphics have a clear coat finish. These vehicles are much easier to maintain as the clear coat offers a better protection - black streaks are much easier to remove.

The other type of RV has the vinyl graphics on them and a Gel Coat protection. In my humble opinion, the gel coat doesn't offer that great of a protection and maintenance becomes much more of an effort. These RVs become oxidized and lose their UV protection withing the first year if you don't keep up on the waxing or sealant. Black Streaks on these unit are much more labor intensive as well as the oxidation.

Pressure washing an RV has its issues if you're not careful. Depending the PSI on your pressure washer, you could easily do damage... damaging the vinyl graphics is one. Rubber roofs on RVs is a big "NO-NO!" as you could easily rip into the rubber roof's protection.

On the units with vinyl graphics and Gel-Coat, I use Dawn dish detergent mixture to wash the RV and spray the black streak with an All Purpose Cleaner, the black streak simply drip off. This also works great on getting the oxidation off. However, it is very important that on these rigs you follow through with a sealant (such as Liquid Glass) or a good wax.

On the full paint RVs, some wax or a mild RV Black Streak remover such as "ThetFord" Premium Black Streak & Bug Remover works great and can be purchased at Walmart.

Thanks Guys the reply's are Very Much APPRECIATED!!!!!!!!!!!!

Happy New Year To All!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :buffing:
