how to remove gum and candy from porous interior surface?

I was detailing my moms intrepid, and there was gum residue on the dash. i put some steam on it and brushed away, this was before i knew those brushes would scratch

it got the gum off but theres a faded mark now.

how do you take gum residue off interior hard surfaces safely?

OPC? Goo Gone?

Get a can of dust off, turn it upside down and it'll freeze gum. Come off easily
