Hello,

I am planning a full detail on my friend's car, and noticed these white speckles all over the hood & top of his car. What product do I need to purchase to remove it? You can feel it with your finger, it's not a scratch, it's just some sort of overspray that has stuck to the surface.

Notice the white dots up above.. Yes it's swirl-mania on that hood!

I should have mentioned this, but yes I did wash it & clay it, but no good.

If its on the surface then when you are compounding/polishing it should come off.

I tried "back set". It didn't do a thing. What else would you guys recommend before I refer him to a body shop?

Is it overspray caused from latex paint, like the one used to paint manually with a brush?

If that's the case, the small drops can be removed by claying. It's going to take a long time, but it can be done.

Even though it can't be considered as a "best practice" since the risk involved is pretty high, you can remove the larger drops with a single edge razor blade by lifting an edge of the drop and then try to remove it like a sticker.

If it can't be done like that, then you'll have to remove all the drop with the blade.

The reason why this is pretty risky is because if you are not very careful, you will cause very deep scratches, or even peel the original paint off.

You can also remove the larger drops by claying, but you'll have to be patient.

How about a solvent based product like mineral spirits and (the most tricky and dangerous) lacquer thinner?

I tried polishing it off with the flex 3401..that didn't work. I don't see how the clay will be more effective. I did clay it pretty aggressively.

I would try a decontamination system before I take it to a bodyshop

Well it appears I didn't clay for a long enough time. I gave it another try and isolated each spot and after about 5 minutes of rubbing, the white spots came off. Thanks a bunch guys! White spots are all over the damn place..I'm going to have so much fun. :(

Many times I will use a plastic razor blade keeping the area wet with ONR mix. If clay isn't working I will try this. I have done this many times and never had a problem with scratching the paint. Of course I follow up with compound and polish. Glad you found a solution to your problem!

I have used Trix and Finish KK on several vehicles to decontaminate and remove industrial fallouts.
