I wanted to brighten up the faded plastic around my truck.

First is my black windshield cowl then its the rear bumper top pieces on my f250. Is there such a product that will work on both but not run when its wet?

Look In the reviews section. There is a great review about black wow products

Another vote for Solution Finish. Since it actually has dye in it you'll see a much longer effect than most competitors.

Have you tried Meguiar Back to Black? It is available over the counter and seems to work well. I just used it about a month ago on my Yakima Skybox roof top carrier. It looked much better but it didn't bring it back to new. Washed the whole car with a power washer when we arrived at our vacation destination and didn't notice the product coming off or streaking.

Gtechniq C4 Permanent Trim Restorer is great but not cheap!

I've concluded after many numerous years of ignorant failure, Armor All is actually the most expensive product anyone can ever use. The reasons are many.

Carpro dlux can be tricky to apply. I messed up my engine cowl with it. It can look great but you'll want to practice using it beforehand.

You mean Meguiar's Ultimate Black? or Mothers Back to Black? I've only used the Meguiar's and honestly I think it's alright but nothing that will last over 2 weeks, even in dry SoCal weather.

Here is a small test spot of Solution Finish (just did it about 5 mins ago)

Bumper is now sanded and taped for the 50/50 shot.

I noticed that ultimate black works better on certain trim. I'm actually going on 1 month on the front cowl of my daily driver with ultimate black here in So Cal. I prepped it with mothers back to black trim cleaner.

For longer-lasting (measured in years) trim restoration products:
-ValuGard's ETR Kit III
-GatorBack Coatings

What I do when working with faded trim I first clean it well using all purpose cleaner and a brush then wipe on Wolfgang Trim Sealant, not only will it darken it but will last for months, not weeks.
Amazing stuff.

Maybe that's what I'm doing wrong. I'm scrubbing it down before with APC then wiping with IPA before Ultimate Black. But it might be because it's on my rear "diffuser" so it gets dirty quickly with all the rear tires being so close.

Yes, I do mean Ultimate Black. The safe thing is I actually looked it up before posting to make sure I got the name right.

Penetrol.... I use it on the black trim on my MINI.
Lasts for months. I mean, like 4+ months. Does not run in the rain.

It's cheap... About $11 for a quart :dblthumb2:

FWIW, Consumer Reports just published a 10 week test of five mass market trim restorers. They only tested one type of plastic from a 2001 Toyota Sienna. The winners were ReNu and Wipe New. Mother's Back-to-Black, Meguiar's Ultimate Black Trim Restorer, and Turtle Wax's Premium Grade Trim Restorers faded badly over the course of the test. I don't know if I am allowed to post the link, so Google "Best Exterior Car Trim cleaners - Consumer Reports" for the full article.
