The topic has come up a few times recently so i thought I would make a short how to and video.

What you'll need:
Ice scraper or similar scraping device
Stiff carpet brush
Vacuum
Smaller stiff brush (optional but helpful)
Extractor mine is a bissel autocare pro heat (required for this method, but a vacuum may work)
Water
Citric acid based carpet cleaner (fiber rinse, optional)

Start with typical carpet cleaning:
1. Dry brush
2. Vacuum

Next is bulk salt removal:
1. Use ice scraper to scrape bulk salt
2. Use stiff brush to further remove bulk salt.
3. Vacuum

Here's the brush I like to use, it's small and has a scraper. Also shows before condition.

Now for the actual salt removal:
1. Using extractor wand, spray a small area until some of the salt dissolves. Not all of it, just a small amount. Soaking the carpet will just spread it. Use either water or a citric acid based carpet cleaner. The one I use is a fiber rinse plus it has an encapsulation polymer so I can leave the carpet a little damp by design when I'm done.
2. Use your extractor to suck up the water, one pass to start.
3. Repeat steps 1 and 2 until you've gotten all the salt visibly removed. After 3 repeats, do a couple extra passes with just suction to remove extra water.
4. Once you think the salt is gone, repeat steps 1 & 2 at least 3 more times. If it's bad, consider 5-6 more times.
5. Do a final extraction as you typically would: 1 heavy wet pass followed by 3 dry passes with whatever extraction fluid you normally use.

Condition after drying.

Your local carpet cleaning distributor may carry it. If not, you could ask them for a similar recommendation based on the use: a fiber rinse with encap polymer
