I just came across this new fad in car wrapping: velvet. A friend-of-a-friend posted up pics on a Bentley with it, and of course it's dirty. I can see no way you could have this wrap on a car that actually gets driven, and not have it look dirty. It's hard enough to keep a freshly detailed car looking good, but at least you can touch it up with a QD and be on your way.

Wow what a way to ruin a nice car!! I saw an Audi R8 with that c r a p and what a sick thing to do!!...LOL

I'll just leave this here, a friend of mine did this in response to the SCCA dinging him in tech about primer spots. The FURRY RX4

Back in the 70's, remember when making cars "fuzzy' was kinda in vogue?

Yeah, but I believe it was delegated to JUST the interior.

Actually it WAS the exterior.

In a nut shell...apply 'glue' to the car surface and spray on flocking. I think they use an electro-charged kinda set up so the flocking would 'stand up'.

It may have been a Northwest thing only. Don't remember seeing it mentioned much or at all in any auto mags.

Kinda fun to 'pet' a vehicle with it on...

What's the next 'hot' detailing tool going to be then, a shag-rug rake?

I remember when some were doing that to their vehicles
back in the 1960s...Yep, back when "Velvet Was King".
(Or was it "The King" in velvet?)

Yup!

But, we'll just us it for the interior of my tricked out 1973 van.

Ah, the 70's! Disco, platform shoes, 180HP Vettes, et al.

I remember all the fall out in Hot Rod Mag against the van craze. That was quite an era.

This isn't velvet, but almost as beautiful. Happened to spot it in a random Orlando parking lot this morning....part of me respects the airbrush job...but maybe just the wrong "canvas"?
