I have tried to use many cleaning products but still dont have an idea to restore this wheels. can you guys share some ideas or post a previous thread link? its not easy to find those previous links by myself...

IMO the only thing that's going to take those black spots out is Meg's WB, and the surface is still going to be all rough. I have two sets of wheels that look like that, and I'm pretty sure I'm going to get them painted the when it's time for new tires.

PS IME it's the wheels that have no/thin paint on the inside that get like that, the brands that put actual paint on the barrels hold up a lot better than that.

This is a Honda S2000 rim. and many of the car's rims are like that...
should I take it off and brush it more? if everytime i took off the rims, it will take too long just on the rims...

You need acid to get those spots out...and they will come right back because Honda doesn't put any paint on the barrels!

Thanks for your reply.
Not just on honda, alot of cars either japanese or european I found this problem. even my clients do not really care but I still need to find a solution.

so what are those really? I used tarminator and iron x and very little of them are removed each time, i can't afford to treat them many times in each car wash...

and you mentioned acid, can you give some examples so I can try on them? e.g. maybe vinegar?

I use Poorboy's spray and rinse.. maybe give it a try... Or oven cleaner on the back barrel only!

Meguiar's Wheel Brightner + IronX + Clay. That should get them looking pretty good again and I would pull the wheels off to get them looking their best. Be prepared to spend some time on them though but I think there is still hope!

so the meg wb is like an acid right? and i can't is it on the front of th rim? what is the proper application for it?

I ran into something like this on a Challenger I did. I use Iron X multiple times and it still looked like that. I ended up using 3:1 Optimum Power Clean with a green scotchbright and a light touch to remove it. I went back over the barrels with 2 coats of Opti Seal to try to keep it from coming back.

thanks for ur reply. APC should do the job with some scrubbing? i will try that again when my day off. thank you.

Remove the wheels for better access and a few rounds of Meg's Wheel Bright or Poor Boys Spray and Rinse along with some agitation with a brush so should do the trick. Remember to follow proper safety precautions when using either product and don't forget to seal and protect when done.

Use a lot of soap in a spray bottle... i usually do about an ounce of megs shampoo plus and fill half way up with apc and then with water... that cuts the oils and general filth and then really lightly hit it with a white scuff pad. Dont use it on polished or chromed areas but its okay on paint and wont waste a clay bar. If you dont have access to a scuff pad (fine one), I have also used a brillo pad. Again keep everything wet and dont use too much force.

Malco brake off,my go to for bad wheels that Meguiar's won't touch.
Will not hurt brake parts or coated wheels. The dust rinses off in sheets with no effort

thanks for the great info. just order a wheel brightener this morning before seeing ur replies. but will try to get some pictures to show the result if it works well. thanks guys.

bunch of great reply's and suggestions. Thought i should throw mine into the mix.

  1. Remove wheels from the car
  2. OPC and a scrub brush
  3. let the wheels dry
  4. Sonax and a scrub brush *many post on proper use of the product*
  5. let the wheels dry
  6. round 2 sonax or iron-x and a scrub brush
  7. round 3 *IF NEEDED* sonax or iron-x and scrub brush
  8. Clay with lube!
  9. Bring out the polisher! most completed with PO85RD or M205
  10. OPC wash / dwell / rinse to remove the polishing dust/remaining polish
  11. seal, wax or coat

I've only had good luck with Megs Wheel Bright on chrome wheels. Its a good product and has it's place, but for the most part I prefer not to use it on any aluminum or coated wheel. Seems I'll spend as much time to remove the residue as I would use washing the wheels another way.

hope it helps!
