How To Use the Dupray Hill Injection Steam Cleaner

This is an amazing steam cleaner. I've only used it a few times since Autogeek brought them into the store but I'm so impressed with it's design, function and ease of use that you'll see a lot more steam cleaning projects coming up in the future.

First, lets take a look at what comes in the box....

The Hill Injection model comes fully self-contained in it's own storage case.

Here's all the various accessories that come with the Dupray Hill Injection model.

Now let's take a look at how to get your new Dupray Hill Injection Steam Cleaner up and running....

How to turn the unit on

The main power button is in the back behind a protective, flexible cover.

watermark.php

Press the rocker switch to the on position and the power indicator light will light up.

watermark.php

You can tell power is now supplied to the unit as the digital display will light up.

watermark.php

watermark.php

Next press the power button to the ON position to supply power to the heating elements.

watermark.php

watermark.php

Next turn the heating elements on....

When the steam indicator lights comes on at 330 degrees you're ready to start using steam to clean...

For cleaning car interior, you're going to love the triangle brush with the spring loaded towel clamp. This makes placing a clean towel onto the brush fast and easy and it holds it very securely.

watermark.php

The size of the brush head is PERFECT for any standard size 16" square microfiber or cotton towel.

watermark.php

Simply fold the towel diagonally to create a triangle shape like this...

watermark.php

Place the brush head onto the folded towel like this with a little more extra space at the top. (not much just a little, you need some excess at the back also)
watermark.php

Use your finger or thumb to depress the spring loaded clamp....

watermark.php

Then simply pull the three corners of the towel up and through the open slots of the clamp....

watermark.php

Should look like this when done correctly...

watermark.php

watermark.php

You're ready to start cleaning and disinfecting without using chemicals.... this can be a real lifesaver if you're allergic to or sensitive to cleaning chemicals.

Continued....

In the time it took me to place the clean microfiber towel onto the triangle brush head the steamer came up to full temperature. No long waiting time from a cold to start to full temp.

watermark.php

There are three buttons on the top of the multi-tool handle...

watermark.php

In order from top to bottom

  • Low pressure steam
  • High pressure steam
  • Hot water sprayer - Sprays a much larger volume of boiling hot water instead of steam. Typically you use this for flushing an area you have just heated with steam.
For general car interior cleaning you'll use the low pressure steam setting and it's MORE than enough steam to tackle the grimiest interior.

watermark.php

On and Off button to realize steam or hot water on the inside of the handle.

watermark.php

This is steam coming out of the brush head on the low setting....

watermark.php

watermark.php

watermark.php

This is after making a single pass over the 4 black tiles you see on the floor behind the brush head....

NOW THIS IS WHAT'S REALLY COOL ABOUT THIS TOOL!

Most steam cleaners use a pressurized tank to hold the steam. What this means is that when you run out of water you have to TURN THE MACHINE OFF THEN WAIT FOR THE MACHINE TO COOL DOWN BEFORE YOU CAN ADD MORE WATER. This is a HUGE time killer.

Not so with the Dupray Hill Injection Steam Cleaner. This unit offers continuous fill, that means you can continually fill the tank with water as needed without having to turn the machine off and letting it cool down.

Here's the tank cap, note the hole in the top of the cap which is your first indicator this is not a pressurized steam cleaner.

watermark.php

watermark.php

This steam cleaner is on, it's at full temperature and I'm pouring water directly into the holding tank. No problems.

All you have to do is use a pressurized style steam cleaner one time to fully understand how important and desirable this feature is in a steam cleaner.

watermark.php

Here's a tip...
Have plenty of clean towels on hand when using your steam cleaner because the grimier the surface is you're cleaning the faster the towel will become dirty and you want to be able to change out to a clean towel on the fly....

You don't have to use white colored towels but the white color works great as a visual indicator showing how dirty the surface really is and when it's clean.

Don't forget to stock up on microfiber towels. You can use any color but white shows how much dirt and grime you're pulling from the surface being cleaned. When you switch to a clean towel and no longer see dirt building up you know the area is clean and you can move on.

Technical information from the Autogeek Store

The Dupray Hill Injection Steam Cleaner offers the most powerful steam cleaning capabilities available in a portable commercial unit. This powerful Tecnovap machine is capable of cleaning and disinfecting faster than traditional methods can.

The Dupray Hill Injection Steam Cleaner harnesses the power of steam to clean every inch of your vehicle, both inside and out and is also capable of deep cleaning nearly any area of your home.

Pro Grade Tool
If you’ve ever used another commercial steam cleaning unit, you may have gotten the impression that these machines are beasts that are best left to professionals. Lesser consumer-grade machines take what seems like forever to heat up, use gallons upon gallons of water to run, and have only one pressure setting, making them unusable on delicate surfaces. That’s not the case with the Dupray Hill Injection Steam Cleaner.

Heats up fast, uses little water
It heats in only 7 minutes, uses very little water, and offers fully adjustable variable pressure settings. This is especially important when working on delicate surfaces where the disinfecting power of heat is more important than the actual steam. The Dupray Hill Injection Steam Cleaner includes a generous accessories kit for a multitude of cleaning projects.

Low Humidity Dry Steam
The Dupray Hill Injection Steam Cleaner offers a low-humidity dry steam system not usually available in an affordable commercial unit. Producing 62g per minute, the Hill Super Inox utilizes steam with a 5% humidity content and heats to a maximum temperature of 345° assuring a perfectly clean surface that will dry quickly, eliminating the risk of mold or mildew forming.

Disinfects and kills
The high heat disinfects—even killing bedbugs—without the use of chemicals. Since the Dupray Hill Injection Steam Cleaner uses little water, has a 3.2 quart water reservoir, and can be refilled while the machine is in use, you’ll be able to finish the job even faster!

High pressure steam
With an unmatched 121 psi of steam pressure, the Dupray Hill Injection Steam Cleaner is ideal for loosening up difficult automotive residues like brake dust, carbon, oil, salt, diesel smoke and more.

High heat rinsing
Boiling water is then injected into the steam to aid in rinsing the residues away faster than ever before!

Large capacity water tank - Rust proof stainless steel construction
Each Dupray Hill Injection Steam Cleaner features a stainless steel body and a 2.1 quart stainless steel boiler, making for a stronger, more durable machine that is easier to clean than inferior plastic models.

The TIG welded stainless steel boiler in the Hill Injection machine is designed to outperform and outlast standard aluminum or steel found in other steamers. Each machine features an electromagnetic float system within the boiler to clean scale, calcium, and mineral build up during regular operation.

Uses normal tap water
This float system allows the use of tap water without the fear of clogging the machine. In fact, the system only requires a quick 60 second drain and rinse after every 50 hours of operation. If you’re worried about expensive replacement parts, don’t! Unlike other systems that require the entire boiler to be replaced when the heating element goes out, the Dupray Hill Injection Steam Cleaner incorporates replaceable heating elements that save you time and money!

Lots of optional accessories to get into and clean just about anything
The Dupray Hill Injection Steam Cleaner includes 24 Tecnovap accessories designed to withstand the high temperatures that the steamer produces, while offering an option for nearly every cleaning need. With the Dupray Hill Injection Steam Cleaner and all of its accessories you will be able to clean your vehicle’s paint, upholstery, rims, engine bay, floor mats, carpeting and more. When you’re done detailing your vehicle, take the Dupray Hill Injection Steam Cleaner inside the house to clean grout, flooring, walls, upholstery, and even kill bedbugs!

Product Features:

  • Durable stainless steel body.
  • Easy-to-use variable pressure controls at your fingertips.

I love my steamer but it's no where near this fancy. Did you really need to use the phrase "body oils"? Ewwwww!

This model is definitely fancy and the end result of all the fanciness is you do better work faster.

Hey... interior cleaning includes removing all kinds of icky things...

At least with steam you're also killing all the microscopic critters at the same time.

:xyxthumbs:

I have the same machine and can't imagine living without it. I've removed years of encrusted salt stains with the injection feature. What would have taken hours and lots of elbow grease takes minute. As you said though the best feature is the continuous fill. I've never been able to do a car without re-filling at least twice and sometimes up to 4 times. They aren't cheap but time is money.

What`s the price for this type of machine Mike?
I use steam in all my interior details and for more or even deeper cleaning I follow with the Portable extractor. This way I know for sure I`m not just cleaning And desinfecting, I`m Pulling everything Out!!

You have it in stock Mike?

I have the Super Inox and I can't say enough good things about it. This unit is the cadillac of steamers being able to steam, inject chemical and extract all in one unit. The steamer is awesome for cleaning and sanitizing dash vents. Put the steam in one and watch the steam come out of all the other vents.

As Mike has stated these units are great for cleaning without chemicals for customers that have alergies or just don't want chemicals used in the cleaning process. The steam is so dry deep cleaning leather is easy and quick.

This thing looks awesome but I just don't do enough volume of work to justify the cost. If I did this for a living full time I would be all over one of these.

Cool which dupray will forum members say is best suited for exterior detailing

I just purchased my Dupray Hill Injection Steam Cleaner and while it comes at a pretty steep price, I have found it to be an invaluable tool for my automotive detailing business. I Have used it for interior cleaning (vinyl, leather, and carpet) as well as exterior cleaning. This weekend I will use it to clean an engine bay on a pick up truck.

My interior detailing with the Hill Injection is great, I am still deciding on how best to use it for exterior. I have used it with Megs Last Touch detailer and Megs 135 as a prespray and have found the sprays to not allow the surface to dry well.

Mike, what spray do you recommend for exterior prespray? For those who use the stream for exterior, do you use a prespray or do you just clean with steam and microfiber? I have seen videos that use both and I have tried both methods on my vehicles, just not on customer vehicles. Even if I don't use it for exterior, the benefits of interior cleaning are worth the investment!

I don't have the injection. I have the vx5000 from Steam Cleaners Direct which I too love dearly. For outside such as wheel wells, wheels, tires, I do pre spray, agitate, and before it dries, blast it off with injection. SHINY!

I'm looking to get one of these. I keep finding more and more uses for my 1385, and am just plain using it for everything. And with that I am refilling more than I used to on one job, than I did the past detailing season. I'm curious if this steamer is eligible for discounts during a no exclusion sale?

Mike, what spray do you recommend for exterior prespray?

When I need to get the exterior of a car clean I use either a waterless wash or a foam gun for a normal style wash. Here in South Florida we don't have any water restrictions as it relates to washing cars... at least not yet. To date I have not found a reason or benefit to using a steam cleaner to clean the outside of the car when I can do it faster as just as effectively using traditional methods plus non-traditional methods.

An example of a non-traditional method of washing a car would be using a Porter Cable with a Cyclo brush to machine scrub tires to prep them for a coating.

Best darn tire cleaning brush I've ever used!

Since the steam evaporates rapidly with the Dupray steamers, I could see where "possibly" it could be feasible to wash a lightly dirty car using steam in a state like California but I still don't think it will ever be as fast as any of the other three options,

  1. Normal car wash
  2. Rinseless car wash
  3. Waterless car wash
For those who use the stream for exterior, do you use a prespray or do you just clean with steam and microfiber?

My guess is a good waterless wash sprayed on ahead of time might help to already be going to work to soften and loosen road film but then you might as well just wipe it off instead of heat it up and wipe it off. :dunno:

Even if I don't use it for exterior, the benefits of interior cleaning are worth the investment!

I agree. I think where a steam machine really excels is for interior detailing.

To me... these pictures taken at one of my Detailing Boot Camp Classes do all the talking as to what you can do with a steam cleaner.

Here's what a Dupray Steam Cleaner can do!

At our September Detailing Boot Camp Class we had an all original 1967 Lincoln Continental in our class for a full interior and exterior detail.

Here's how the original white leather interior looked BEFORE my class took the Dupray Hill Injection Steam Cleaner to it...
