How to wash in freezing weather?

I was surprised last night when I drove by a drive-thu wash and it was open. It was about 6* out.

That is surprising. Around here they close when temps dip into the teens. The bays with the wands stay open, but the automated washes don't. I drove by a couple last year which didn't close and there was ice everywhere. In some places near the bays of the brush and touchless bays, the ice was over 6~7 inches thick around the approach and exits. Oddly enough, when it warmed up a couple days later there were huge slabs of ice piled up off to one side and all the bays were "closed for repairs". I can't help but wonder what type of damage the bays suffered.
