Hello all,
I am brand new to this hobby / craft and sure as there is daylight I will post some ignorant questions. I just received my PC polisher and am in the process of gathering all my supplies and pads before I do my first detail.
The beast I am going to tackle is a 1997 Town Car with some serious paint / finish issues. I was planning on fixing ALL the paint problems first, but Uncle Sam has his hand out and I gotta pay him before I can get the land yacht fixed up.
However I have already purchased most of what I need to get the car looking as good as I can. I beg your patience and fortitude when I post a question. My lack of knowledge and terminology not withstanding some of the posts I have scoured are leaving me way behind.
I am completely open for help and suggestions. If I ask a stupid question please try to understand I have not done this extensive routine before. I was simply a once a year paste wax ( Rain Dance was my favorite) and done type guy. However with the allocation of the Town Car my objective is to get it to look as nice as possible.
The car was inherited and I have spent a small fortune fixing it over the last 8 months, mostly mechanical stuff, I had the worst parts repainted and that has given me hope as to what can be accomplished. She was left to the elements of the Outer Banks of North Carolina and that is a brutal environment for anything made of metal and plastic. After 10 years I have some work ahead of me.
The salt spray has deteriorated most of the chrome, and has done a number on the clearcoat as well. There are some deep swirls that I am going to compound after an initial wash and clay. That is where you fine people come into play for guidance and knowledge.
So I am here now. I have been on another detailing forum and made some aquaintences there. They where helpful as I am sure you all will be.
My Username is Bakerman. You may call me what ever you deem proper. My wife likes to call me A$$***e, but I'm sure you can do better.
