How's this look for my first summer detail?

Howdy folks, haven't posted in awhile. Last I did, I asked about the best products to protect my new Civic for the winter. I ended up (as recommended) going with the Wolfgang paint sealant and topped it with Collinite 845, and I was very happy with it (and got compliments even in the dead of winter).

Now with summer starting, i've pooled some money for a splurge, including finally getting a PC :awesome: <-----rofl that's awesome

My car is starting to show wear and I have swirls. I'm meticulous about my washing, but I guess it comes with the territory. I would say they're light to medium so i'm going to go with:

XMT Porter Cable Swirl Remover Kit
DP High Perf. Glass Restorer (glass doesn't have the shine it used to)
Pinnacle Ultra Poly Clay Plus
Pinnacle Souveran Paste Wax

So I was going to wash the car, clay bar it, hit it with the XMT, then a coat of the Wolfgang sealant and then top it with a coat of Souveran. I'm hoping for a deep, glossy shine as this color of paint responds very well to it. How does this sound? Anything else I should pick up while i'm at it? I have the full compliment of cobra towels and stuff.

Maybe another question, I made an error the last time I clayed (my first time). I used the Mother's kit with the supplied lubricant (detailing spray). However, I never wiped each little section off, I just moved on and then washed it again at the end. Since it was winter, I had to do this at work in the parkade and the light wasn't fanastic, so I ended up waxing over the residue which didn't come off with the wash, as I could see it the next day in the sunlight. Kind of a zebra effect, although faint. Will the process above fix this? I'm assuming the clay will take all the old wax/sealant and hopefully this residue off (lesson learned, that's for sure).

Coments/suggestions certainly welcome. Thanks!

Couple suggestions. First off, welcome back.

If the wash doesn't take off any of the old wax, etc., polishing (which it sounded like you were going to do) certainly wood. If you aren't going to polish now, then add a cup of APC to your wash bucket, and that'll strip everything. Of course, you'll need to re-wax afterwards.

Product choice:

Which pads and XMT #'s are you going with? Just from hearing it, I think an Edge green pad or LC orange pad along with XMT #3 for sure, or maybe XMT #2 will definately take everything out. It will also leave the finish LSP ready for sure.

I've not tried DP's Glass restorer, but the reviews weren't fantastic. Yes, it is a decent product I believe, but nothing super special.
I would love to hear a good review of the new Diamondite Glass polishes. Check them out, they just came out about a month ago. I have their plastic polishes and they work wonders with the Edge 4" pads.

As far as your LSP. You have a good choice with wolfgang topped with Souveran. I don't know how many times I've heard that you don't even need/want to top WGDG with anything, it just looks good. I've yet to try it, but it's in my shopping cart right now.

Personally, if you have the time, just use Souveran by itself. The downside is you will have to re-wax once a month since it doesn't last forever. This is just my suggestion, but again, I've yet to use WGDG to see what it looks like.

BTW, all Pinnacle is on sale so make sure to stock up!

What is the color of the car?

Thanks for the w/b WT, and thank you much for the reply.

I was going to go with the Light Swirl remover kit which comes with a CCS orange, CCS white and 2 CCS grays, and the XMT #1 and #2. Either that or the intermediate swirl remover kit which is idential except it comes with XMT #1 and #3.

I'll check the Diamondite out then and post some results. My headlights are glass so I was planning to shine them up as well.

I'll snap pics during the process and post em up to show the various stages and i'll be sure to get one after the WGDG and before the Souveran. The WGDG looks spectacular on it's own, but it's a rather harsh climate here and I prefer the little extra protection. It was recommended to me here, and i'm glad it was ;)

Car is "Rallye Red". Kind of an odd color, I have many pictures, and they all look different depending on the light. Turns kind of an orange in bright light.

Hey SiliconX,

Haven't seen you around buddy. Hope winter wasen't to bad on your vehicle. As for the summer, XMT line up is good. You should try the Souveran Paste....with a pint like your it would look wet.

Looking forward to seeing pictures of it.

Hey Nica, wassup?

Winter wasn't too bad actually. The WGDG+Collinite 845 held up really well, still beads, although not as much as it used to. Small rock chip on the rear quarter panel was about it, so I consider myself fortunate. Is it just me, or did they drop alot more gravel this year? :(

Yeap, going to polish it with the XMT series to clean up the light swirling, then a coat of WGDG topped off with a coat of Souveran Paste. Should look good.

Going to be a 3 day job I think. Day 1 will be pulling all the wheels off and cleaning them up real good (tires are pretty brown), along with the wheelwells and the interior. Day 2 will be the wash, clay and polish and the WGDG. Day 3 will be after the WGDG cures, the coat of Souveran. It'll be my first detail of this magnitude, so i'm hoping it'll turn out great.

Yeap, i'll be sure to post pics.

Yea, I know what you mean about the gravel....oh I learned somthing this year. The city is starting to use salt and lots of it. The previous years, well at least that I'm aware of, they didn't use salt. They used to use gravel mixed with sand. Now salt, yup my lexus and Volvo are staying in the garage. That's why I love my beater lol.

Hey if you need a hand with the deay you know all you have to do is ask, I'll never pass an opportunity to detail :D. Don't worry your baby is going to look sick...hahaha get it sick hahahaha...aham...I mean she's going to shine lol..:D

Yeah, I heard about the salt as well, I should move to BC or something =\

I work for Shaw so I could just ask for a transfer to Nanaimo. Housing prices are crazy.
