Hey everyone,

Today's detail was a 2007 Toyota Tundra SR5 with 11,000 miles on it. The owner recently got back from a trip out west to Yellowstone and the truck showed it. The wheel wells were caked with mud and the front end was covered in bugs. This wouldn’t have been bad on a car or small truck but mind you this is a 4 door full sized truck with an 8 foot bed. Huge! My girlfriend and I tag teamed the wash. The front end was soaked in PB Bug Squash and scrubbed with the back of a shmitt. The wheels and wells were scrubbed with Danase Formula D and the wheels were cleaned with Rim Juice. The rest of the massive truck was washed with NXT with a shmitt (me) and LC Ulti-mitt (her).

The paint was in rough shape, for its age. There were a lot of random scratches and I was able to remove some of them. It had light but deep swirls throughout the truck as well. I tried SSR2.5 with a 7.5” VC LC polishing pad but that didn’t satisfy me. I usually condone using an orange pad with SSR2.5 but that’s actually what I used on the whole truck… and I still was able to go straight to LSP!!! I kept the pad clean and everything went smoothly. Sure the paint could have used a pass with SSR1 but there would be little improvement for 1.5 hours of work. I topped the SSR2.5 with Surf City’s Nano Seal. I haven’t used this sealant before but it’s actually a mix of carnauba and polymers, like PB EX. I applied with an LC blue finishing pad with the PC. The results are nice but the sealant was a pain to remove. I let the product sit on the paint for over 3 hours and I could still faintly see the PC marks of where the sealant was applied. I applied it as this as I would any other sealant but it gave me a little trouble. I would have put a ton of elbow grease into it but I decided to do an OCW wipe down instead.

Process:
Wash / Dry
Clay with CM Blue
SSR2.5, LC orange light cut pad, PC, speed 6
Surf City Nano Seal, LC blue finishing pad, PC
OCW by hand
Interior- vacuum, Meg’s #40, Invisible Glass

Sorry for the long thread. I wanted to share the results with AGO. It was a ton of work but the results are well worth it! Thanks for looking :)

I feel your paind detailing a big truck. Just the bedsides take forever to do.

Looks good though.

Very nice work! It came out great, looks like a mirror! Sweet! And its a huge truck!! To bad they don`t sell Tundra in Norway :/

Great job! :applause: :applause: Very nice!
You better hang on to her! Just keep her off the forum and away from Joe.p :D ;)

That is my dream truck... Nautical Metallic Blue, SR5 4x4 Texas Edition. Of course too many mods to mention. They don't deserve a truck like that!! Thank God they have you to save it!

mmmmm....blueeeee...that's a fine looking truck and a fine, fine job you did. Just love the way that blue seems to drip off the vehicle...sawwwweeettt

That is wicked that your girlfriend helped you out on this truck you both did a great job.

Thank you for sharing.

She's a keeper so don't get any ideas Joe :p.

She likes detailing, especially when we clean her car. I've given her the PC and UDM before but she says it feels like it'll shake out of her hands... she'll stick to interior work, claying and washing. That's fine with me, always good to detail with a friend / family member.

Dust to Glory- I don't think (I hope) it'll get back into that condition. I got the ball rolling and the owner said he'll keep up with it this time around. It is a very nice truck inside and out but about 10 feet too long, :). He puts a Harley in the back and tows a travel trailer with it.

Thanks for the comments everyone, it makes a long detail worth it.

Very nice job Budman! Great turnaround. That was alot of paint to play with there. My gf will help me everyonce once in a while and I put her on the interior. Does a awesome job!

Awesome detail! That BLUE is deep and wet!
That's one long azz truck bed! I'd have to sit and polish! Can't bend over and work all the way down the bed!
I noticed a few people who've tried Nano Seal have a tough time with removal.

Man how long is that bed on that truck? Looks to be 10 feet long! LOL!!!
Them new Tundra's are nice. Sweet job as always...That blue is liquid...
:applause:

Seems a few have questions about the removal of the Nano Seal. Do the guys at Surf City Garage have any tips on Nano Seal application and removal they could share with us?

That is one wierd looking truck, not a big fan of it!

BUT HEY you cannot argue with the quality of the detail, fantastic work!!! Before and afters are day and night!

Hi Meghan – Took a look at everyone's questions and it looks like two things to eliminate swirls and make removal easy.

Application: some people may have used a buffing machine to apply Nano Seal. Nano Seal and Nano Shine are both designed for high-end detailing and should be applied only by hand. But they are not for fast detailing, where some people may use a machine. So if you apply Nano Seal by hand with MF or a clean towel, and then give it time to penetrate and dry on its own, it will work perfectly.

Removal: When you’re ready to remove, rehydrate with any spray detailer or even use water in a spray bottle. Nano Seal will come off super easy. You can also rehydrate with Nano Shine. This removes the Nano Seal easily and then applies a coat of carnauba. Nano Seal is really step 1 and Nano Shine is step 2 of our Shine On system.

Thanks for your questions, Steven.

Thanks for the tips Steven. One more question. When using the Nano Seal, should you be able to see the product on the paint or should you apply it thinly so it isn't visible? The looks of Nano Seal are very nice and I can't imagine what it'd look like topped with the glaze.

Hey Budman3 -- You're welcome. Here's the answer to your new question.

Apply the Nano Seal just like a high-quality wax. Shake up the bottle well, and apply to an MF applicator. Then apply to the surface of the paint (just like a wax,) and allow it to cure. Fully coat the surface. You will definitely see the product on the paint. The only difference compared to a wax is time. 20 minutes is really good. 2 hours is really, really good. The longer, the better, even up to 24 hours.

When you're ready to remove Nano Seal, then apply Nano Shine exactly the same way. Put it on an MF applicator, and put it right on top of the dried Nano Seal, and you will notice it rehydrates and comes right off like any other wax. At the same time it is applying a nice coat of carnauba to enhance the Nano Seal. If you don't have Nano Shine, you can still remove Nano Seal very easily by using a spray detailer to rehydrate.

Happy detailing,
Steven

It's so strange seeing a truck with an 8ft. bed anymore.

Great work on the detail. That thing was filthy for being a 2007.

So the buffer puts to much heat on the product and dry it out. Yea I can see that!
