Hurricane Shipping News!

Is that big lake the one I just heard about that has a dyke built around it from the 1920's or 30's? I heard a radio show talk about how it flooded in the 20's I think. It has a lot of seepage and is not built to any kind of modern day stanrdards. Not to make you worried, but ... as Bob Dylan sang, "a hard rain's a gonna fall"

yeah that's lake Okeechobee. It does have a dike around it that is 20 feet high. It was built by the Army corps of engineers in 1928 after a hurricane caused a breach in the old one. South Florida's east coast is actually the safest place to live in the state hurricane wise (crime wise is another matter) Our building codes are the highest in the state.

I'd rather listen to zeppelin's remake of "When the Levee Breaks"!
