I almost fainted.....

Ok im being sarcastic! But its how i felt! So i went to the local car wash to wash my moms car, i wanted to pressure wash it since it was quite dirty! I had my two buckets, gold class soap, some brushes,
Mf towels, glass cleaner etc. So im there spraying my car down and i look at the brush that is provided to "wash" the car. The thing felt like a steel brush, so i knew all these people were scratching the living out of their cars! I see people drying their cars with dirty rags!!! Old shower towels!!! Old shirts!!!! And most amazing.... A LADY DRYING HER CAR WITH NEWSPAPER!!!!!! By then i proceed to try to not look around while i wash my car... People walk by and stare at me as if i was from outer space bc they see my two buckets! I continue to ignore them! So then i finally finish and start drying my car i hear a sound way too familiar, a rotary. when i realize that all the way at the end of the lot there are some guys with a rotary offering detailing service! They have a few cars in line and as i take a second to look closely the guy has a wool pad and is moving the rotary all across the hood like crazy!!!!!!!! With no 50/50 coverage! Nothing! Just moving the thing back n forth, side to side, angle to angle, circles to squares!!! I by then feel like fainting! I felt like walking over and offering some tips, but i saw beer bottles around so i decided to just mind my own business... I finish my car and vacuum it and just leave. I am not making this up, it was my experiance at the local car wash! I felt bad for all those cars! Good thing there is people on earth like us that love our cars and do the best to wash them the correct way! :)
 
Where those people with rotary working for car wash company or they trying to steal customers? lol

Another thing you might consider is to break up your writing. Its hard to read and that will make people run.

Try breaking every 3-4 sentence up, its makes it a lot easier on the eyes.
 
Haha the scene must have been chaos! Next time see if you can check out their work that they are doing with these peoples cars. As soon as they drive away you can give them info on how to get the newly installed swirls corrected. Lol

Sorry man, i wiped out my phone and typed that on a phone after coming from such chaotic scene!
 
I saw that for 3 straight years and I also did the same thing with pleasure except I use a foam pad lol when I was working with Ford. I hate Ford with a passion lol
 
Do these people even care about the way their cars are being prepped. Some do not even keep up with basic maintenance. Nothing surprises me these days.
 
haha. I remember when I was putting fliers on people window shield. I saw some kid washing his BMW with one bucket.

I wanted to help so I said "you should wash your car using two buckets because its a lot better for your car".

He said I been doing this for years and I like it this way. Some people you can't help. lol

I mean i understand the old shirts and the shower towels because i did that when i was a kid and washed my parents car, but newspaper!?!? Not even when i was a kid that didnt even come my mind to dry a car.

Im thinking of doing the angle to angle and then circles to square! Hahah! The guy looked so into it as he was doing it!

Well to be fair, using newspaper IS a valid approach for cleaning window glass, but most certainly it's not for paint.

yea we all know the good ol' trick of newspaper on windows! it works great! but she was crumbling it up into balls and drying the entire car with it!

We have a saying for that sort of thing:

I remember hearing that newspaper is around 2500 to 3000 grit? People will take advantage of "regular" people whenever and wherever they can. Too bad you didn't take pics. Pictures are worth a thousand words.
 
This is a classic example of what the average owner thinks quality work should look like.

"We" are a different breed and fall into a very narrow window. We obsess over even the tinniest detail where the average owner looks at the entire car.

We look at things through a microscope, the average owner uses a telescope...

For health reasons I would use blinders from now on...

You know i was actually going to do that because i knew pictures would make my post more believeable but it was getting a little dark and only had my phone on me witch takes horrible pictures in the dark!
 
I've seen similar stuff here at dealerships where cars come in for servicing!

Generally I don't allow them to touch my paint, no wash, no nothing!(cuz its already shining enough that ppl inside the showroom actually start staring at the service area! lol)

Sometimes I bring gloves for the mechanic guy so that he doesn't grease my paint! They only get to have a look under the hood and underbody + occasional rim touching in case wheels are being balanced/handled!

Other cars are greased to hell!! All cars have grease marks all over!!
Occasionally I've seen them scratching the paint while moving tools around!! :eek: And not even caring about it!! (owner didn't even notice it!)

Then I went out to see how they were pressure washing. They put the car on a lift and start blasting it with water. Then came the drying part.

What I saw just left me in utter disbelief!!!

They wanted to rinse the cloth, so they just threw it on the gritty, muddy wet ground, blast it with a jet of water and then the cloth goes on the paint, with the guy wiping the cloth across the paint with soo much force that if the paint was really soft, you'd have to wetsand and compund to remove scratches!!

I just left that torture chamber ASAP!!! :eek:

The concept of car 'care' is literally non existent here!

Most of all, Ll the ppl who come in for service, never care of whats happening to their vehicle! I always stay beside my car participating but not interfering in their work!

Dealership guys label me as 'crazy', but who's car is shining in the end? ;)
 
Yep........NEVER let the dealership wash your car or anyone for that matter unless you know its a good handwash and trust the person.

I don't allow the service shop to wash my Nelly, ever. I don't allow topping off washer fluid or "adjusting" tire air pressure.

I provide a CLEAN non-skid, non-mar pad for the technician to use UNDER their fender cover. I place this note under the wiper, on the passenger seat and on the steering wheel (the Hyundai shop I go to has gotten used to my querkiness, especially the paint and tire pressure). This is what I print out:

Service Technician:

Please do NOT adjust tire air pressure
Please do NOT wash the car
Please do NOT top off washer fluid
Please do NOT wipe down exterior paint for any reason
Please do NOT wipe down interior surfaces for any reason


IF YOU WILL USE A FENDER COVER:

Please place the black non-skid mat (on front passenger seat) over fender body / under your fender cover.

I would have been hard pressed to keep my mouth shut. I would have run off all of the customers in buffer boys line.
