Having detailed as a hobby was pretty fun and then this past year I decided to take things to the next level by getting insured and becoming a sole proprietor. I ran into a lot of nice folks and gained new customers this past year. I especially learned a lot about trying to start a business with no start up money. It's been a tough ride with lots of hard lessons, but lessons none the less. The economy and freezing weather has made it nearly impossible to operate here.
The reason for trying to take things to the next level was that I had got laid off from my day job as a production supervisor and it just felt like the right thing to do at the time.
I've accomplished a lot this year in that I finally got my van inspected and in operation to detail out of and I gained a few new associations in the way of higher end clientele. I have also learned a lot about what it takes to operate a business and have realized that the cart was before the horse so to speak. With the bad weather and no income, my level of stress and worry have been off the scale as of the last 2 months.
Well I got a call today from the company that I was laid off from and they have sold the company and the new owners have guaranteed a 3 year contract and are wanting to re hire all of us who were laid off last spring. We will all go back to the same positions and at the same rate of pay.
Man I am soooo relieved. I feel like 10 tons of weight have just been lifted off of me. Now I can get back into doing higher end details on my off time for fun and a little extra pocket money. I was just told while writing this that I may be starting back as soon as this coming Monday.:dblthumb2:
I am very excited and just thought I would share my excitement with the AG forum family.
