Here is the story on this car. I had done this car about a year ago.
http://www.autogeekonline.net/forum/show-n-shine/48207-2002-mercedes-clk-320-fixed.html

My cousin moved to a new house since they put all the moving boxes in the garage she decided to park her car outside. Since she was new to the neighborhood she did not know the neighbors sprinkles did not work properly and were outta control. The sprinklers wet her car when see woke up she had lots of water spots. Long story short. Her bother washed the car in a attempt to remove the water spots. I have no idea what he used on the hood some kinda of brillo pad or something.

She contacted me saying she had water spots I told her to leave the car at my house and i would work on it once i got home. When I got home i was in shock and disbelief. I called her right away and told her the hood most likely would have to be repainted. She told me to just try and see what happened.
The water spots where so bad even with my most aggressive combo M105 on Surbuf pad it barely made the spots lighter. The hood was a mess needs a repaint. I did a test spot some improvement but it was still horrible. I had been defeated. I didnt detail the car she said she was most likey going to get the car repainted:surrender::surrender::surrender::surrender:

I remember this thread well. Led me to follow your threads and posts more closely, and to further investigate CG products.

Smart move...:bolt:
Amazing what processes others are willing to subject peoples possessions to.

That's a shame....good try on the recovery though!

Holy smokes, I have never seen so much water spot in my life. Was this just over night? That's insane.

Damn, that sucks. Might be a good time to try some sanding if the car is getting repainted. Sad to see. Sorry David.

I was wondering what's in the water also--acid rain? That's horrible. Detail was beautiful, nice try on the rework.

Yeah, how long were those spots on there? I think some decon acid would have been my first step before any compounding.

If that's strictly water I would not want to ingest it seeing what it's done to the paint!!

It almost appears as if a lawn chemical was introduced into the sprinkler system as it runs.

There's not much more you can do to damage the paint further so I'd be as aggressive as possible and hope for the best....

Keep us posted....:props:

Why not try sanding first and then compounding and see if the marks go away? Is it even possible to sue someone if that happens to you? The problem should be fixed by them if they failed to warn you that their sprinklers were bad.

I would try sanding down, just be careful. It's the only last step you can take, it's going to be repainted anyways so might as well try to see if sanding will take off the marks.

If you don't know how to properly sand or need help with it, i'm in Los Angeles as well and can give you a hand.

Ouch that hurts! I have never seen spotting that bad before.

Maybe see if someone around you has wool and a rotary to give it one last shot before a re spray?

yea id be contacting the neighbors thats not a cheap paint job

I agree with these guys... first I would contact the neighbor to show them the damage their faulty system has caused and explain to them that they could be at least partially responsible for the damages done since their system damaged something that was parked away from their own property.

Then, once the damage was properly assessed (seems like you did a good job documenting it with the pics) I would consider filing an insurance claim to be reimbursed for the damages... then, get out that wet sand paper and go to town to see what you can do. Who knows, maybe you can get it "good enough" that she won't want a respray.

Good luck! :buffing:

That's also my question. Was it an accumulation of multiple sprinkling or did your cousin move the car after the first time it got hit?

I can't believe someone would take a brillo pad and do that to the hood... It's like using a sand paper... On a Mercedes!!!!
