I burn my friend car paint with my PC :(

Speed 6 on the PCXP with a 4" pad is really moving and it can generate a lot of heat pretty quickly. I typically won't go above 4-5 with that small of a pad.

Sorry to hear about what happened though. I'd also agree with the others that the Flex isn't going to help any, as far as safety is concerned.

Did you grab any pics?

I'd also have to agree on the thin Infiniti paint. The 2010 FX35 I just did averaged between 80-90 microns. A 2010 Nissan in the same color was all over the place, but with average readings in the 170+ range.

I didn`t take any picture at that moment because i am shock by the mistake i made from the PC, and my friend was really mad at that moment, not a great timing to take picture.

I am grateful that you took the time to share your unfortunate experience with us. It takes a lot of inner strength to admit in public something that can possibly expose you to negative feedback from others. It says a lot about the members of this forum that the feedback has been helpful and sympathetic to your situation. Thanks.

Thanks for everyone advise, today, i took my friend to the auto bodyshop to repaint his door, it cost me almost 700 dollar. My trip to Hawaii have to delay or cancel:(

Sorry to hear this news. If its any condolences, I've never been to Hawaii either :(

Do you want to sell your PC now :poke:

Well this a good reminder for a noob like me..I sometimes have used the 4 inch pads on 6 because it worked so much faster..Clearly a bigger risk after reading this story and it makes sense why. I just wasn't really thinking I guess. How much does one of those paint gauge things cost?

Around $50 to thousand dollar, i am going to buy a HighLine Meter II , it is not too expensive compare to others paint gauge in the market. And there are lots of positive feedback from other user.

Dang....I'm afraid to use a DA PC..."thinkin about buying one soon"
when you guys say thin paint? is that the same a soft paint? HUH? can you have both thin and soft paint?

Smaller the pad equals the more heat created from friction (especially if held in one spot). I've never gone below a 5.5 ccs.......I don't see any reason to IMO.

Yes, you can have both soft and thin paint. A paint thickness gauge can tell you how thin/thick your paint is, and from what I understand the softness of paint varies from manufacturer.

Correct.

If anyone has ever machine buffed your car before you took possession of it, for example the dealership or detailer, or a body shop after doing repair work, there's no way of knowing what they used to buff the paint and who did the work. A nightmare scenario is an untrained person using too aggressive of a compound and needlessly removing too much paint BUT not going through the clear top coat.

Then the next person that comes along could be unknowingly working on whisper thin paint.

Here's the thing to keep in mind, if a section of paint on you car is whisper thin, for whatever reasons, you could easily rub through it by hand or machine. DA style polishers are very safe to use. You can easily be more aggressive working by hand compared to a DA polisher by simply using aggressive products, application material and by exerting a lot of passion behind the pad.
