I Can’t Get the Brake Dust off the Wheels – HELP!

When's the last time you actually had to clean a baked & caked wheel? I guarantee you any color changing, iron removing wheel cleaner wouldn't be able to match these results in 1 try. I wouldn't even think of reaching for IronX...

the only true no agitation wheel cleaner that I have found is Trans Mate Tame Tiger Brake Dust Remover.

Check out Zep all purpose degreaser from Home Depot. I just recently used that on my 2014 GMC Terrain wheels never gone that in depth of cleaning before with the wheels off. Then coated with Black Label Wheel Diamond coating the difference is night and day.View attachment 60677

Well, I spray and let dwell before washing the wheel, so it inevitably gets agitation from me due to my process. I don't rinse in between using the Sonax and hitting it with the soap bucket. I use dedicated, since demoted mitts so any harm the cleaners cause is meh. Plus I like the suds of the Sonax cleaner. I could probably get away with no agitation and Iron-X, and my wheels get it once a week(typically) and never look trashed ever.

I have never seen a trashed wheel that didn't need agitation however...

Concentrations look about the same, but companies typically give ranges for MSDS ingredients rather than exact percentages. So who knows? Summary of listed wheel cleaner ingredients here.

And it depends on how clean you want them. I had some trashed wheels recently that I wanted to coat. Even after cleaning the embedded road grime in the clear coat was unbelievable. Compounding one spoke turned a pad dark.

My wheels are coated and I always agitate with a brush, woolie, or MF. 1 minute per wheel to get them gleaming. My thinking is getting them clean every time means less embedded grime. It could be a wishful thinking.

In my eyes, there is clean, and their is not clean, no in between. So my wheels get cleaned every time I touch them, since I'm setting up and getting in deep with caliper brushes and the sort, I try to get everything.

And keeping up wth regular cleaning is absolutely the best way to prevent grime and dust becoming a somewhat permanent fixture of your wheels. I hope to avoid the need of polishing any wheels I ever own. Talk about time consuming...haha.
